I meant in that shallow pool with even bottom. Seems like they almost have to lift them before being able to flip him back. Turtles of course can get flipped. Just seemed unlikely here.
Splashy splashy usually means food so they flocked to the sound, and one just happened to poke the struggling one enough to tip him over, would be my pessimistic take of events.
Seems pretty hard for a turtle to flip in such shallow water with no obstacles. The only applicable things that could have flipped it are a person or another turtle.
Its not nessessarilly kindness as we know it.. Given the danger of being on ones back, an instinct to help right other turtles you see flipped would be a massive boon to the survival of all of them. They may have no idea why theyre doing it.
There's also a lot of cannibalism and infanticide. Animals aren't better than humans and humans aren't better than animals. We're all just fragile beings controlled mostly by instinct and emotions.
However, in my opinion, due to the vast majority of humans having the ability to make obvious conscious choices to be altruistic this makes us worse when we’re not.
Haha yea it happens. I often have my autocorrect accidentally set to American all the time. First it's 'Oil'! Then it's 'Get off that land with oil'! and if I really don't fix it in time, it gets to 'This land with oil is now mine!'. Fun times
I've seen so many clips of turtles flipping each other upright and no clips of them helping each other in any other way, I'm beginning to think this is a very specific instinctive behaviour (evolved because landing upside down is so common for turtles that this helps the species survive?), so we may yet be OK turtle-uprising-wise.

Does anyone know why they do this, other than some presumed turtle version of the Golden Rule?

The person(s) filming this flipped the turtle over.

It’s fucking team work.

I can not imagine how the turtle got flipped other than that the person filming did this for the likes.

You're right, turtles never wound up upside down before the internet.

While I disagree with your assessment it clearly falls into the realm of plausibility, so the downvotes kinda disappoint me.

The pessimist in me is worried someone flipped that poor turtle over on purpose and then started filming.

I have turtles, it was probably flipped by another turtle. Turtles can be dicks.

You’d see disturbance in the water from whoever’s filming, no?

And sadly you are almost certainly correct.

That's an omnivorous turtle and a dumbass bird. Only about... 30-40% of humans would be stupid enough to go near that thing.
