Mission Impossible theme plays in my head watching this.

It's one thing to train a cat to do something (harder than a dog). But this? This is real thinking and problem solving. Seriously smart cat! The owners need to get some guidance... as this cat might be trainable for some pretty amazing stuff beyond this clever door lock defeat.

Me looking at this hoping to see no AI signs. Me hoping AI hasnt got this good.

its legit, the video clip here is old enough that if it had been done by AI the cat would have extra legs, 2.5 tails and misplaced ears.

My orange cat is an idiot and thinks pushing is always the answer, and with slightly open doors he half the time locks himself in instead

Smart cat!

Man that cat's way too good at that.
I knew one that knew how doorknobs worked, but his lack of thumbs prevented success, and I felt smug watching. But this one probably woulda figured it out

I had a Russian blue that could open rounded doorknobs, and if the door was locked, he realized he could just shake the crap out of the door and the crappy lock would fail and he could get in after that.

I had a car that figured out doorknobs and locks. I would come most everyday to him out on the porch, door half open

I had one that understood doorknobs but couldnt work them, she did however figure out the call bell my brother used back when after he had surgery if she got locked in the room or my brother was asleep and she liked to sleep in his room and he preferred to sleep with the door shut but ye she realized someone would come see what my brother needed so from then on door shut? want food? general distress? ding ding ding

i had a little petite black and white shorthair that knew how to grab doorknobs and turn them paw over paw. she would open any shut door in the house.

Ha yeah, that's what he did, but unsuccessfully. Slippery little cat paws and smooth metal don't work well

My orange one does exactly that. He pounces at the doorknob until someone lets him in/out.

My orange stretches up to the round knob and does the actions of turning it but the fur between his pads is just too slippery. He'll do it for 5 minutes then get mad and yell at the door for another 5.

My late little Orange, Frankie, always tapped at the doorknob when he wanted to be let into the room.
I miss my Frank the Tank.

Cats are probably more intelligent than dogs, they just choose to be served instead of serving. That is true intelligence at work

"For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much—the wheel, New York, wars and so on—whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man—for precisely the same reasons." - Douglas Adams

Whether you rate cats or dogs as "more intelligent" depends on whether you think independence or obedience is a sign of intelligence. The truth is that both species have a wide range of intelligence levels. (And also one of my cats is in the running for World's Dumbest Cat. I love him but he is an idiot.)

I miss my stupid cat. He was actually brain damaged from almost drowning as a kitten and he was the sweetest, stupidest little moggie.

I had a border collie mix that pulled kitchen drawers out to use as steps to get on the counter, and then pushed them back in when he was done eating whatever he wanted on the counter topx

The day cats evolve opposite thumbs we are done for.

Opposing. Opposing thumbs.

I stand corrected. I blame the beer.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I think you've done well, despite your other disadvantage besides the beer.
