Oh no the council members will just have to learn to live with themselves and their bribes

This is my idea of Festivus.

Fuck these data centers.

Festus, the town that produces 'Blue Star' bottle caps...

20 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Festus really is one of the more delightful town names our country has.

The sad thing is, is that corruption/greed transcends race, gender, sexual orientation or belief. Because there was a story about tribal elders who were MORE than happy to give up reservation land, despite what their constituents/families, to datacenters just for money. ALL of them were immediately removed from their positions by their constituents. That's what these datacenters count on. That ppl will roll over, forget and then will simply try again. Datacenters need to be banned PERMANENTLY.

I thought Festus was the secular alternative to Christmas that Frank Costanza invented?

Missouri legislators have been fucking their constituents HARD the past few years and people there are fed the fuck up. I would not be surprised to see massive turnover in the state legislature soon. Even the most gerrymandered districts are chock full of pissed off voters whos representatives have been giving them the finger and daring them to do something. Well, they're doing something now. Voting you out is the nice option. You dont wanna see the not nice one.

21 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wonder why they kicked out the 4th member who didn't vote for the data center.

22 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would guess because "vote them all out" is easier to remember than "vote most of them out, 3 of them, but not what's his name", and also doesnt fit on a sign

20 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It threw me off quite a bit when I first read that as "fetus voters"

My dyslexic ass was not prepared

*phew
Not just me. I was afraid something was wrong with me for a second.

Same. I'm like, "I think they're called Gen Alpha".

Not data centres for festivus!

How many of them are now on the boards of these companies?

23 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

All of them probably.

23 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Festus city council once voters got done with them

22 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We need more Festus for the rest of us.

23 hours ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Good. You dont represent the people, we will remove you.

Too bad it can't happen to Fetterman (and a few other members of Congress). Really need to change that ability.

Papa Nurgle is proud of them.

1 day ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 1

It's a very methy area, so I'd say more Slaanesh approved

17 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought it was Grandfather Nurgle ...

22 hours ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's more to denote the fatherly care in which he imparts his.....gifts, less of any formal honorific in that sense, fairly sure I've heard both.

21 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It is, it's both. Generally speaking his greater demons, the Great Unclean Ones, are made so directly in his image that the lesser demons and followers view them as direct extensions OF nurgle himself. So they will frequently call the GUO's "father nurgle" or "papa nurgle" and the actual nurgle Grandfather Nurgle. The GUO's stick with Father Nurgle, tho, because yeah. There's nothing between them and him. This has been a public service announcement by some guy that knows way too much Warhammer.

15 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Grandfather Nurgle is the respectful way to address him. Papa Nurgle is what his loving family call him.

19 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dada Nurgle <3

14 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dada is too close to Daddy, and that's one of Slaanesh's monikers.

I want to know how soon all these monster data piles will be obsolescent, and what the hell we are going to do with so much wasted material.

Leave it to rot for a few decades before saddling state and local governments with the bill while simultaneously giving tax breaks and favorable zoning decisions to the next round of already supremely profitable businesses that will displace even more workers.

Sharpen the edges and put them on sticks. Me thinks the idea will work

13 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Use it to build the pyres to burn the rich on

21 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Look at all the abandoned warehouses and real estate around the US. These buildings will sit and rust and decay for decades while the LLCs that built them evaporate and everybody involved skedaddles with their grifting money.

1 day ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 1

I suspect the same thing you do with big-box stores that go under. Nothing. Just let the property sit there doing nothing at best.

When someone comes up with a different AI schematic that does way more with less.

19 hours ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Personally, I'm going to build new gaming PCs for my entire family, and it'll be the best $50 I've ever spent.

23 hours ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

It will not be obsolete probably ever short of some theoretical far future tech that’s super small and hyper efficient… not in any time soon. There is always going to be comput/ai needs. And doing large scale datacenters are the most efficient, economies of scale at work. There may be some point where we have more compute than need , and construction on new vs retrofit/rebuild might swap.. but nah not obsolete

20 hours ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I'm sure the warehouses will get reused for concentration camps ...

22 hours ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

There is precedent for this

21 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's highly unlikely they will ever be obsolescent. AI and data centers are here to stay, think railroads. People have every rights and good reasons to fight building of data centers in their cities/regions, it wrecks havoc on the environment and bring very few benefits (and negligible employment).

20 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Idk about where you live, but I can think of plenty or now obselete rail lines in my area.

Distribute the GPUs and RAM to the masses!

Hey, I can dream, can't I?

modern server gear is made specifcally to be unsellable/worthless on the secondhand market.

1 day ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 4

surely all those new and fancy nvidia chips will be worth dozens of dollars

21 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

E-waste for everyone!

1 day ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

They use a lot of desktop gpus in these things.

22 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's interesting, since most of my stuff that I run is used Enterprise grade gear that I buy used at a huge discount.

23 hours ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Same, I refurb and resell on the side for a tiny profit

22 hours ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

most server cpus are fused to the board so replacing it with another simply wont work. amd started this "trend" a few years ago. so buying a low end used one and later upgrading it to the most baller cpu it can fit wont work as the cpu is linked to the board. if you look around you will see these popping up in more and more locations.

22 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I’ve been an IT tech for over 20 years and never once seen a server with a cpu fused to the board!
