I think a hurricane made it dangerous to be on. They made some repairs then another hurricane damaged it. They had to remove that section and wanted help funding the repairs from the city, or something. The project has been on hold.
I spent my childhood watching sunrises while fishing from that pier. My Dad & I never once ate at that cafe/diner. We always went someplace else for breakfast, after sunrise.
If I'm being honest, the looks from people as we walked by were not very welcoming. As I got older, I assumed my Dad was avoiding a "situation."
Anyway I have more happy memories, than bad memories, on that pier. I wish I could take my granddaughters fishing on the pier.
