Introducing CORNELIUS aka CORNHOOLIO, my new pet corn snake aka ‘danger noodle’

Mar 24, 2026 5:43 PM

I’ve adopted a new rescue! This time, it’s a corn snake. On Sunday, I drove 1.5h to pick him up from a very knowledgeable enthusiast, who says that he is 2.5 years old. I’m torn between keeping his adoption name, Cornelius, or giving him a funny name, Cornhoolio. I don’t want to give him an identity crisis so I’ll probably keep Cornelius.

He is so beautiful! At first I had paper towel as a substrate, but this morning I changed to coco coir, because corn snakes are burrowing snakes who like to dig. I want to get a misting machine to keep the humidity up.

I’ve got a few hides and fake plants already in the terrarium, and later this week I would like to find a flattish wooden bowl for him to slide in and out of. The plastic bowl is probably harder for him to get in and out of, and doesn’t look great.

Snakes are interesting pets. I can’t pick him up or handle him much yet, because he’s just settling in. He’s on a hunger strike at the moment because it’s breeding season, so I can’t feed him. So far, he’s more like a piece of living, interactive décor. I’m very quiet and so is Bonnie, so I don’t think we’re disturbing him much. I think he likes it here.

Spring is starting to peek out from under the great cloak of winter. Hiking season to start soon! Thanks for reading. #snakes #reptiles #spring #hekate #transrightsarehumanrights
