Great-grandpa served on the USS Prairie during WWII. It previously had been a hospital ship, then was converted to a mechanics ship. He and his friends found some film that was for x-rays. They built a camera, and used the old film to take these pictures.

It's kinda hard to make a modern camera though. Like any of us could make a simple camera though.
