The only funny thing about this is that the German government apparently expect to get the money back from the US once the shutdown ends.

Things have gone from bad to wurst... Cause German food... but seriously what the fuck.
PhloydPhan
I wonder if things usually go well for regimes that stop feeding their soldiers....

Will prolly be like when Sweden wanted our money back that we had invested when they fucked with USAID, took months of pestering them to get it back.

Oh, not to mention HALF OF GERMANY'S GOLD RESERVES that the US is still holding "for safekeeping" after WW2 and won't even allow any German official to SEE.
LogicDude
I work as an Army Civilian and have friends that work in Germany - the resources that were posted were meant for the Local National employees (Germans) that work for the US Army and that are also not being paid during the shutdown. It is not intended for use by US Soldiers or families.

Oh, good to know, thanks... so it's only the GERMAN US employees suffering from the US shutdown because they're not getting paid. Cool.
LogicDude
The Local Nationals are US Government employees, so they are in the same boat as everyone else. Very few (if any) Fed Civs overseas are seeing paychecks right now, just the Soldiers are getting paid. Also, Soldiers & Civilians stationed overseas have the US Commissary available for food shopping. They are currently providing 0 interest on food purchases charged by Soldiers and their families while the shutdown persists, so none of them are going hungry.

Oh so no Americans are hurt, only 11.000 Germans working for the US government.
All is well then.
IgnisInvictus
Please explain to me why it's Germany's responsibility to provide for American soldiers?
Germany is doing what it should be by providing for German citizens who are not being paid by the American government, yet are still expected to work for the American government.
It's our Administration that's screwing over American soldiers.
pyr0max
Indeed, no Americans are being hurt. Only you?

I'm not affected by this in any way, except emotionally, I suppose? And, well, that's my tax dollars, I guess, but I'm not mad about that.
