The tag on my new pot said it had lead in the construction. Quick return.

The tags are still a fucking wreck. Is Imgur business daddy protest over? What happened to the new site with hookers and booze? https://www.fda.gov/food/alerts-advisories-safety-information/fda-issues-warning-about-imported-cookware-may-leach-lead-august-2025 article link was wonky, linking FDA source instead.

I only use my mom's old cookware from before the discovery of lead

Fun fact, Washington State recognized this issue years ago when they noticed abnormally high levels of lead in Afghani refugee families living in the state. This law was passed in response: https://ecology.wa.gov/waste-toxics/reducing-toxic-chemicals/washingtons-toxics-in-products-laws/lead-in-cookware-law

No surprise to me.

They've been doing it for decades, that's why so many crazy people in USA... They just found out NOW because they don't have the funding to check everything that's imported...

If they don't tell us the brands it's just inflammation and sensationalism, click bait isn't news.

The lead was everywhere before we were even born....

RFK Jr says globalists are 'lead fearmongering'

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So to clarify, this isn't a new thing with these pots, the Biden Administration had lowered the limit for lead in both foods and food handling surfaces in January before Trump's term. It occurred on January 6th, and more than likely the Trump administration will both a) take credit and b) recind the limits back to where they were before Biden.

Is it more, or less, than the amount of lead provides by municipal water sources?

Flint, MI, dis you?...

stainless steel is the way it do take longer to get to temp

Oh nice, I'll finally have something in common with my parents.

New site still in development.

Would a lead test kit (for old paint) work to show lead in the cookware?

6 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Most likely yes.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Probably not. (Source: I once tried using a lead test kit on leaded solder, and it didn't indicate)

Hindalium and Indalium? My god, is there any threat from Chinesium? Have my shitty wrenches betrayed me?

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Does Josten's still make their high-school class rings out of pure "Lustrium"?

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

are you eating with your wrenches? because then probably yes

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't kink shame me.

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Time to abolish the FDA, right MAGA ?

6 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

They’ve already tried so don’t remind them to do more firings or putting someone as incompetent as RFK Jr in charge

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Maybe they should. Maybe once enough children have died from preventable diseases, parents will rise up and lynch RFK for his insanity. Maybe when enough people have died from things like lead poisoning and shit like that, enough people will say: this has gone too far, lets lynch . Right now people like RFK are destroying the country and not enough people seem to care/see what is going on.

Explains a lot

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why can't we keep lead out of shit?

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because it's cheap and abundant, and we are cheap and shitty, out to make a quick buck. Next!

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

like asbestos it is truly an incredibly useful material. it just also happens to be very damaging to our bodies

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just FYI, aluminum cookware is probably also a bad idea. It hasn't been proven yet, but there appears to be a strong correlation between people who died of Alzheimer's Disease, and people who died with an abnormally high concentration of aluminum in their brain tissues.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Aluminum is used in quite a lot of different products that we use for cooking, eating, or come into contact/get absorbed by our bodies, like aluminum foil obviously, but also including makeup/toiletries/etc., not saying that the cookware isn't a problem, but just getting rid of that alone won't prevent it from entering your system.

Enameled carbon steel is the way to go

When you do your darndest to become a third-world country and finally succeed, other third-world countries are going to sell you third-world shit. Enjoy your tariffs and other shit lmao!

You might like to learn what Third World means; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_World

The way you seem to currently understand it is propaganda.

cast iron wins again.....

6 months ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 1

Carbon steel is superior in my opinion

6 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I have both... jury's still out, what's tour take?

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Imo I like carbon because it is lighter and you can flip food with no utensils, only time I use the cast iron is for roasting a chicken. I also spent a long time in restaurants cooking on carbon on the sauté line so I’m just used to it

Hopefully the lead doesn't interact badly with the microplastics

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It may help with the radioactive shrimp.

6 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Interestingly, those radioactive shrimp are the least dangerous things on that list.

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've heard it makes wine a lot better

Or the forever chemicals.

Having all three in my system, I will live forever as the 18 different cancers all fight for dominance of my horribly disfigured remains. I shall rule this world as a slightly more sane Deadpool.

Oh that from the more popular Glycophosphates, asbestos, formaldehyde game

Via FDA link, these are cookware from India

6 months ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 1

Hindalium and Indalium were some pretty good clues.

6 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The names of the alloys was a strong indicator of that.

6 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

What the heck, lead doesn't even work with aluminum (metallurgically speaking). How does it even get in there, part of a lubricant? Enamel on the label (only some though)? *mind boggles*

6 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Perhaps we should consider that these are not actually "pure aluminum" in spite of the labels.

6 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Brazing agent I assume, but I've been drinking.

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Aluminum brazing uses zinc and aluminum alloys; lead isn't miscible with aluminum (and zinc), it actually sinks to the bottom in a melt. My best guess is they used leaded brass rivets or cladding or something, but I'm not seeing a single thing that confirms that :/

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Leave it to India man..

6 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Since it's a brass - aluminium alloy I'm guessing the brass is TS10 which does contain lead.

6 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Brass is already a (copper-based) alloy; a copper-based alloy with aluminum is called "aluminum bronze". I see zillions of hits for wheels and flashlights in "TS10" which makes me think it's either a proprietary designation (part numbers from various sources?), a finish or coating, or something foreign. "TS10 aluminum" turns up 8020 style extruded rail. "TS10 brass" turns up only flashlights. "TS10 brass alloy" turns up a reddit post claiming it's similar to C360 free machining (leaded) brass.

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Matweb has one hit for "TS10", a temper of a special copper alloy. Closest I can find offhand is C86400. But still no confirmation that "TS10" is even a designation that exists, let alone who created/published it (is it a .cn standard? just something from some company?)

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Looks like it's a model name for a flashlight, with a variant having a brass casing. Said casing contains lead. https://www.reddit.com/r/flashlight/comments/15fswuh/alloy_composition_nobody_asked_for_brass_ts10/
