Longing for days gone by (cw transphobia)

Dec 28, 2025 12:15 AM

Maybe it’s just me, but I do earnestly feel the things I said here — trolling used to be performance art. Think about Ken M. for instance. Where did that kind of stuff go? When did “trolling” become synonymous with “proselytizing”?

What the fuck is wrong with people? Someone else somewhere out in this big ass world of ours is trans, so fucking what? What the hell does it have to do with him?- not a goddamn thing. It does not affect him, it does not impact his life, he should keep his opinion to himself. And I mean that for everybody; if your intent is denigration of someone just trying to be comfortable in their own skin, STFU. Keep that hateful shit to yourself.
(Unless target is a nazi, in that case- punch. Repeatedly.)

Don’t give them “engagement”

3 months ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

I'd love for them to get some engagement. Hopefully people find out who they are IRL

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This isn't trolling, it's bullying. Bullies have never been clever, it's just always been a shortcut for people that have no real basis for their sense of identity to feel superior to someone else.
I will never understand the people that have nothing better to do in their life than to go out of their way and harass people that are already hurting.
and yes I know the irony of that statement with my point count, but at least my pointless comment farming is casual and done in between other things.

3 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

I mean, I can get it. I might even be able to forgive it, depending on the context! When you just have nothing, socially, I can get why someone would behave like that. We need interaction, as humans, it really messes with us when we don’t get it, and we really like having control of things. It’s almost Hegelian, master-slave stuff. It would, in theory, be nice to have a ready-made relationship that you have control over, and can provide you with that interaction and self-worth boost. But the

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

problem is that, as with the master and slave, it’s a broken relationship that can’t really give you what you need because what you need can only result from a non-hostile, genuinely reflexive interaction.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

For what its worth, that troll's account has already been nuked.

3 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

That's genuinely surprising considering the hard turn this site's taken recently.

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Just block and move on. They want a debate in bad faith.

3 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Sort of: they want attention. Doesn't matter if it's positive or negative. Any amount of any type of attention justifies their assholery.

3 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

That's why you just block. It'll get quieter and quieter and then hopefully they move on

3 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Not worth your time.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This shit just sounds like a 14 year old who just got done listening to his 4th video by Andrew Tate. Terrible fucking comebacks. It's almost sad that they think they're making any sort of impact, as if the LGBT community hasn't been fielding comments like this for generations. Even 4chan could do better.

3 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

Yeah, like bro they used to throw rocks at me.

3 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

I feel that. No pun intended.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Trolling has always been both. There has always been this half assed lazy version too.

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Always has been :( Remember this?

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How about this?

3 months ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 10

Holy crap

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The best treatment for trans people is a bullet to the head of every Nazi-ass Republican.

3 months ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 2

Seems like he's projecting really hard

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I coincidentally ALSO think the best treatment for trans people is a bullet to this guy’s head

3 months ago | Likes 136 Dislikes 8

He'll never do it though, despite the huge boon to humanity his end would bring. Seriously, dude, if you're that much of a pathetic freak that you see this: the world IS better without you in it.

OP I wouldn't doubt this lame ass barnacle is mildly obsessed with your comment and post history rn.

3 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Who isn’t 😩

3 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

about to buy an etsy hex on that bloke from the same people who hexed charlie kirk

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

the way I would truly become an advertising menace if that was me. They’d have to make new laws about it, because what are you gonna tell me you believe in magick enough to get me for false advertising, or running a murder for hire scheme? They paid me for a ritual, the ritual happened, and then across the country some guy got got and only God can say if the two are related, but I’m gonna sell rituals at a markup now.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That kind of remind me of the story/joke (untrue but still fun).

A bar moves into this religious town and the flock pray to stop it, and a lightning strike causes the bar that was still being finished to burn down. The bar owner sues the church for the destruction, and they claim their innocence. So we have a bar owner that believes in the power of prayer, and a church that doesn't.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Trolling used to be for fun. Now it's so that Nazis can shit all over you and then duck behind "It was just a joke." if there's actual consequences.

3 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

That guy's hard drive is totally full of transgender porn.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

lol, I hope they die mad about us existing and being happy

3 months ago | Likes 141 Dislikes 6

A Saturday NIGHT!! Think of all the Queens out there having a fucking blast at a club, or at a house party with their friends, and then think of this guy, angrily hunched over his keyboard.

How can you blame anyone for being trans if those are the options?

3 months ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 5

I think of all the MAGA freaks that were alone this Christmas and my heart warms.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Some people say it’s “Karma” but I find that to be a besmirching of Karma, who performs miraculous acts of justice; this is just the endpoint of that kind of behavior. You wind up alone. The party that convinced you to put your keys in the bowl fucked you in the ass and then drove home in your car. You alienated the people around you for that party, just so you could go and get hurt. I would feel sad if I was silly enough to think they “had no way of knowing,” but come on.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I was raised religious, I can take a lot on faith. THAT? That’s a bridge too far.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

fuckin right??? I'm probs gonna go make out with a girl later and enjoy every second of it lol

3 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 6

They want SO desperately to have company in their misery

3 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 4

Trolling as an art died when the joke stopped being funny back in 2015.
Same with conspiracy theories.

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

C R E A M, am I right??

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Sure, let's go with that.
;p

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Simply tell them that men make up around 80% of suicides. I never understood this attempt at transphobia because by all accounts, they're nearly twice as likely to do it.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

careful. they might masturbate with that kleenex!

3 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

like I say about panhandlers, yknow, what do you think *I* was gonna do with em?

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I would much rather a troll masturbated literally rather than masturbating figuratively in the middle of a serious conversation.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Trolls have never been fun or interesting. They've always been the worst of attention whores.

3 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

what an egg. no one has that strong of an opinion about something completely unrelated to them. and the irony is, we'll be there to support them when the time comes anyway

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The term trolling was derived from a type of fishing, not some monster under a bridge.

3 months ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 3

Exactly. No more trawling, only demanding that randos “Pay the Toll”

3 months ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 4

3 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

Isn't it a deliberate mash up of both.

3 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

That sounds likely, but I’ve no way of knowing that for sure

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Not really, tolling was throwing out some bait and hoping to hook someone. When it became known people thought trolls not the fishing term

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Well, I have no trouble combining the two. A trollish basement dweller, laying in wait to throw out bait to passing internet citizens. I don't doubt that many others see it that way.

It doesn't have to be only one or the other.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There's a technical term for when the original meaning of a word or phrase is lost and it's used to mean something entirely different, but I don't remember it.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Semantic drift.

3 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

TY

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Openly transphobic name, still active.

Fuck you business daddy.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is there a more up-to-date statistic for suicide rate among trans people?
Not for trolling purposes, mind you. I'm trans and, when I'm among friends, my sense of humor is kinda dark.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

that I’m actually not quite sure of! I’d be skeptical of… I mean, tbh any data about this at this… shall we say, “Particular Junction of History.” The pool’s gonna be skewed not even just on a methodological level, but on a foundationally epistemic level — you’re testing wolves in captivity to determine the behavior of wolves in nature, at that point.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Lol, that's a depressingly apt analogy.
Thanks all the same. And good on ya for fighting against the bullshit when you see it.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hey, when I’ve got the bandwidth, I’d rather it take up mine than someone else’s, yknow? We’re all we got, sure, but luckily, we’re also all we need. Chin up!

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Trolls love getting answers. They know their point is null, it's not about telling something. The goal is to trigger a response. And it doesn't even matter what it says.

3 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Which is why we have the phrase "don't feed the trolls" but no one seems to listen to it.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Imagine the world if people who were alienated from society just joined unions instead of… whatever this stuff is.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

A union of trolls?... Just look at the US government i guess.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I meant more like an industrial or trade union, but I suppose it would be nice to have all the trolls in one place, as long as we’re cool losing the HQ for Shitheads Local 510

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I miss when you could personally connect with the trolls because they had a dedicated account on a forum that they cared about and from their you could destroy them with that personal connection. now it's just random idiot#44709533

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

There have been a few that I’ve managed to wrangle into genuine conversations, some I even became friends with for a bit. They were often rather sad, and you’re the first to show them some serious connection. Another facet of the problem is that internet used to be People, and now it’s… largely not People, which isn’t helpful if your goal’s connection.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

"internet used to be People, and now it’s… largely not people" yep it used to connect us but now it dumps us into a churning sea of nonsense where a large % aren't people and a large % are people just trying to exploit the algorithm. me telling you to kill yourself gets more engagement than saying have a good day.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

And then advertising and sold data or some other machine magic makes line go up and everybody’s happy except the planet and also most of the people on it

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I have a 5 year old daughter and I genuinely am never going to give her a smart phone. she can go ham when shes an adult but shes on a flip phone until then. smart phones were a mistake because social media is a mistake. i try to avoid being on my phone around her at all now.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Absolutely a good call! And they’re making a comeback, people miss them for exactly that reason, they stopped being a communication device and started being a jumble of delusional, disembodied voices yelling at you from a thousand different directions.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Think I ran into that asshole last night, when they were using an already different account.

3 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 4

3 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 4

Don't respond to them. Seriously, don't. You don't owe that fucker a response.

3 months ago | Likes 369 Dislikes 7

Yeah. Ask yourself why you even want to. The freedom to not even give a thought to these fucks, lies in your figuring that out. Be well and safe, we love you.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Report, block, move on.

See also: sealions, whether intentional trolling or just the way they engage with discussions

3 months ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 4

Why do you think people who are just asking questions are sealioning? Can you cite a real study that shows we're sealioning?

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Too many people out here feeding trolls again making them more powerful. Most trolls are bots nowadays anyway hoping for any engagement.

3 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Agreed, don't feed the trolls.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, trying to re-learn that. Guess I just miss when jokes were more than shields for idiocy.

3 months ago | Likes 113 Dislikes 8

I usually just hit them with this flavor of nonsense and move on knowing they don’t know what half the words mean anyways.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

My wife just wishes them a chipped tooth.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Saw ghe shitgibbon on anotger post and reported the account for anti trans hate speech, I know this does little, they will probably pop up again...but I did what I could.

3 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

You're just fighting with the wrong half of the bell curve. They think hurting people's feelings makes them smart and edgy when in fact any back woods dumbass can hurl an insult. You are more than the fight. And I mean the bigger fight. The social fight. Rise above and feel the sun on your face. You are more.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Internet trolls don't get their name from the monster but fishing net usage. they see who responds to the array of filth they put out. when someone responds, they amp up that specific subject for no other reason than to get a response. they don't know how to interact with society but they learned they get a reaction from being contrary. all humans want to be part of something and interact, some people are just ill and this is all they know. to respond validates the behavior. stop responding.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Putting this here so I can practice what I preach: don't anyone respond to the homophobe in the bad replies below, either. Just block them and report them. Current mods may be a garbage mix of AI and underpaid outsourced labor, but if enough people report someone, there's still a chance the system'll actually work as intended and ban them for super blatant hate speech.

3 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

Appreciate the shout, doing that now

3 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

I think they might've already been banned (that or they just made that account only to be a dick, and deleted it themselves. It wouldn't let me report them, so I clicked over to their account for the hell of it, and it claims they have no content, including comments.

3 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I'm gonna assume it's the same dick who was race trolling earlier this week w/an expressed effort to get banned. Asked mods to oblige him

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I don't get it. Who are the 42%? Is it good or bad to be one of the 42%? All I got from googling was some programming school called 42something.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A reference to outdated statistics on the Transgender suicide rate. Much like 1488 or 13/50, it's a bigoted dogwhistle for them to abuse.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thank you

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Suicide rate of trans people. It's both out of date and applied incorrectly but suicide is still a serious and sensitive topic for LGBTQ.

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Thank you

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Actually suicide is a serious and sensitive topic for any kind of gender identity. Trans are more prone to it but it affects "normies" the same way. But yeah, thanks for the info.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

OK, what's the 42% about?

3 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

Ach! Nevermind. I see it explained down at the bottom.

3 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

I've searched and cant find the reference. What is it? Suicide rates amongst lgbtqia people i am assuming by context, but thats a shot in the dark

3 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Yep, maybe gonna comment this again in the actual thread for context, but “42%” is an outdated statistic from a study that was rather flawed to start with about suicidality among trans people raised in abusive households that was subsequently weaponized by Brave Culture Warriors doing it for, varyingly, sexual gratification, God, Satan, Netanyahu, Trump, none of the above, all of the above, TempleOS, and most recently and excitingly, ChatGPT.

3 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Hey don't bring Satan into this, the anti-trans brigade are vastly more likely to be Christians or Muslims than Satanists.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s symbolic shorthand for “Kill yourself” for people without the balls to say it out loud, like “1488” is to Nazis. It’s very cute, demure, and not-at-all transparent and stupid.

3 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Always thought it was weird how upset people get. I can wrap my head around hateful bigots but I've met people who were pretty good across the board (pro LGB+ etc) yet would rather burn the house down when it comes to this minority that as far as I can tell arent hurting anybody.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Julia Serano thinks it starts as a spore, you trim the mushrooms of homophobia, racism, you trim the stuff that has material consequences to you, and even some of the stuff that doesn’t, because it makes you feel good to do that — mushrooms are ugly, everyone can agree on that (in the metaphor) — but transphobia makes you dig up the soil, find the spore, and burn it. That sucks, it’s not fun, and the garden may even be uglier for it, for a while. But if you don’t, the mushrooms keep coming back,

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

in even bigger number than last time. This is why if you push a lot of transphobes, you’ll find things like homophobia and racism and classism — they didn’t get rid of the spore, so these mushrooms come back. That’s not to say that all of these things literally result from transphobia, allegorically it more means that the suppositions transphobia relies on are the kind of suppositions that power, on a much more obscure level, other types of bigotry.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

(The obscurity is because ultimately transphobia as a cultural phenomenon is a much more recent practice than, e.g., racism as a cultural phenomenon)

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I do miss the good old days of when trolling was a really thin line between comedic art and being an asshole. The true masters rode that line amazingly well. We’ve been well over that line forever now :(

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Comedic Art? I only knew it as people being assholes, doing anything they could to anger others...

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Look up KenM

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes. Depending on how old you are, trolling was more commonly just harmless pranks on message boards or online pc gaming. Memes, absurd stories that sounded real, team killing a friend, dropping a flag at the last possible second so your team didn’t score. Random stuff that in the moment may have been “wtf” but inevitably was laughed at in general. Not the “how can I make this single individual feel like they aren’t a person” shit that it’s more common as today.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There was a good share of them too. But I think it’s that it’s been steered in a fundamentally political direction. Like, there are really funny places to be an asshole, there’s a reason why every ensemble sitcom has at least one shithead. But when ideologues recognize that “playing an asshole” is a cute way to get mileage out of “being an asshole with a thin veneer of reasonability” it’s unavoidable that it’ll tilt in a functionally political way.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

But then, maybe this is just nostalgia, and nostalgia’s inherently reactionary. Maybe it’s always been like this, and if Lenny Bruce was with the Bund instead of the socialists he’d’ve been left alone. But I dunno, and I don’t know if there’s a way to know that.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is a art to trolling; a tragically lost art.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I believe you mean *an* tragically lost art

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A long time ago - we're talking 15 - 20 years - it was more like "pranking". In some circles the pranks were harmless, in others they were only harmless if you already knew the joke (c.f. Alt+F4), but in many places they were actively malicious. In the former circles, people grew up, got bored, and moved on; in the latter, the intent mutated into one of causing the victim actual injury, and since then, it has lost all sense of veneer; it has become open dickery, a refinement of modern bullying.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yep, and I’ll make a point of adding KiwiFarms, 8ch (yes, the pedophiles, how rich), and other “lolcow” type harassment and abuse to this. It makes sense, in a sort of perverse, delusional way, right? As the contexts people are in become more tricky and chaotic, people adapt and become less “trollable,” the “trolling” has to escalate to somewhere, namely picking people and just sorta ruining their lives for sport. It’s just… sad.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0
