a problem unique to the greed in the system. There is no problem with demand for services, there is a problem paying a fair amount to people who can provide them, shareholders want all profits.
Considering how much they charge for basic things, you'd think they'd want to simplify the process. Always make it easy for people to give you money, after all.
Why would I want to live in a country with free healthcare where I have to wait a month to see a doctor when I can pay for healthcare and only have to wait six weeks?
Just go to your nearest healthcare centre. There might be a wait but at least it’s free…oh wait…unless you’re an American living in America. If you’re an American living in America, you’re gonna have a bad time
I love the system in Canada. If I have a primary physician and I go to a walk-in clinic, the physician will get charged a fee for *not* seeing me. So he keeps his patient list at a reasonable size, but I have options if he's too busy to see me. And all of it is free for me regardless.
Ain't "for profit" healthcare great? No. It is not. I hope some day, my grandkids might have a chance to benefit from a national healthcare system, where there's no middleman to rake in profits.
Not just US. It's all but impossible to get an appointment here for a mandatory Dr's Cert for sick leave. I turned up to a clinic, was told that they had no appointments and refused my offer to wait for any no-shows, happy to wait all day. I was almost escorted from the lobby. Only offer was I could wait 1+ weeks for an appointment... unpaid leave it is then I guess. FML.
There is to many people now. We haven't made new hospitals in years. I have no clue why we just don't make more hospitals, DMVs, and public helping buildings. We have a huge city hall where people collect bills and plan zoning. But we don't build more fucking hospitals. Also make doctors work 2 to 3 days a week. Fuck It! Pay them more let them work less. We will have more doctors!!!
So we’re a family of doctors and we own a family practice. It’s a miserable business and we’re going to sell it soon. No matter what we do we are getting fucked by the government and insurance companies. We have to essentially overbook to make a profit, so we can’t accept walk-ins either. Too many unknown variables. We would love to, but just can’t if we want to make any money.
Only thing that will fix this is through politicians... And it’s neither democrat nor republican that will fix it
As someone who works/schedules for Primary care daily...each clinic is different. We just changed up how we do stuff at ours and now its more convenient to get an appt with a doctor rather than go to Urgent Care. 2 yrs ago...it sucked. Especially having 150+ providers
You can see a private doctor here for about 80 but you can claim that back on your insurance (which almost everyone has through work) or go to a hospital for free. I cannot understand how some folks are against socialised healthcare
I just added vision during my open enrollment period. Missed an email that I didn’t click submit (I am currently on leave) and now I have to wait a whole year again
Retired from healthcare because of this. Want to know why this is happening? Because insurance companies tell us we get 15 minutes to see an established patient. FIFTEEN minutes. I have to see the next 15-20 patients before lunch or I won’t get enough reimbursement to keep the lights on. this policy is creeping into the specialties and inpatient medicine too. It’s not about patient care anymore. You are no longer patients, you’re widgets in the assembly line and we are factory workers.
I got 4 names for "in network" urgent care clinics and a link to check in online so they call tell me when to head over 30 mins in advance. Does that count?
My clinic books 2-3 months out. But we have a couple blocked slots each day called "Same Days" for urgent concerns. Only book them 24-48hrs in advance so they stay available. We are also a FQHC though, and I think its mandatory for our funding.
Recently received an urgent care bill from a service date in January 2022. New rule: If they can wait a year and 9 months to bill from the service date, then I can wait a year and 9 months to pay from their bill date. Seems fair.
Urgent care does not cost anymore than primary care when using insurance. Please make sure that you are not going to urgent care for a primary care issue though…
It's really hit or miss. Urgent is care is $75 copay for my plan & $25 for primary so literally triple the cost. Multiple visits a year for even smaller amounts like that add up to unaffordable for a lot of people
You Need to learn how to schedule your Illness is better. Make an appointment in December then only get the flu two days prior to going, that is most efficient for the insurance companies.
When I worked for Disney the insurance was pretty good and you can find your own doctor but they also had doctors at their own on property office that could take you basically for free and did urgent care. That's was probably the best thing about working there besides free tickets.
Also, I have yet to see any real health insurance or healthcare in the United States that actually is healthcare and covers and takes care of a human being the way they should be
Along with the extremely low pay that your insurance that you got that you seem to think was really good, was probably sucking up your entire paycheck. Maybe you lived at home and had free expenses because the $10-$15 an hour you were making at whatever location you worked at wasn’t paying for this she supposedly got because there’s not one person I know that worked at Disney that ever said I love it unless they were currently rich and just love Disney
Depending on what you do at Disney, yeah it sucks pretty hard (anything in food/retail/attractions which is like 90% of the jobs lol). That said the amount taken out of my check was pennies for the best I could opt into, like best vision/dental was $0.05 a week and I'm pretty sure I paid like 15 a month for the regular insurance. I was also paid $18.75 an hour when I worked there.
Companies that don't offer any benefits go out of business. Or their executives get dragged into the street and by their workers. No one is suggesting that Amazon doesn't pay their warehouse workers; We just suggest they should pay their warehouse workers more and maybe allow them to pee.
America is fuckin' wild. Things aren't fantastic in the Canadian health care system but if I need a doctor I just...go to the doctor? If it's urgent I go to my doctor's urgent care hours and they refer me to the hospital if it's beyond their scope?
Albertan here, I called doctors office back in September and they put me on the waiting list to call me in January to make an appointment, and (if I’m lucky) I’ll be able to see doctor in February. I’m afraid to complain though because last time I was accused of being part of some not Lee cult…
I live next to an Indian Reservation. But my house is not in the Res, and I am not a member of the Tribe. My insurance company assigned me a primary care provider on the res in the Tribal Health Center. I'm not allowed to go there. They will not change it without some form. Tribal center doesn't have the form and never filled one out. So I just don't have a doctor. Sweet, huh?

the urgent care near me requires you to call ahead in advance by 40mins.

Fly to another country. Use any healthcare system than Americas. Fly around the world 2 or 3 times while recuperating. Go home. Still cheaper.

Wasn’t Urgent Care set up because seeing your primary care doctor was taking weeks/months and sometimes you need to get care the same day?

This is why I’m a nurse practitioner and not a doctor. Salary for the win.

Did you tell them it's urgent? Usually they can get people in within a day or two for urgent things.

I've had a doctors office that had a PA for last minute stuff. My new doctor does not and books 3 months out.

Yes. Urgent Care is usually covered at a higher rate than ad hoc primary care visits.

Not all plans are equal. Some charge more for certain types of appointments.
SomeDetroitGuy
Urgent care is usually cheaper and in many cases, paying out of pocket is going to be cheaper than some copays for primary care.
SincereCheese
Yeah, it's typically the worst plans that have higher co pays for emergency services.

And because primary care is so backed up, so many people are just using urgent care that now urgent care is requiring appointments.

Being paid is a benefit of employment. Frequently, the only one.

That's not a benefit, either. Being paid is the only thing that separates it from slavery. "Aren't you glad I haven't enslaved you" isn't a benefit.
