I've literally never heard of a teacher getting a tip or a bonus of any kind whatsoever. Bus drivers neither. Never heard of leaving a Christmas bonus for the mailman. And I've never been rich enough to hire someone to clean my house, so I wouldn't know about that.
Seems like BS to me though.
CanIGetSomeExtraSalt
I've heard of tipping the mail man but never done it, tipping house cleaners seems reasonable, but the others not so much
69Voltage
It’s not BS. It’s a way to say you appreciate someone who helps you throughout the year

my family has always given cash to the mail carrier, and teachers got little gifts - mugs, coffee, but not money. (that's a long time ago though; i bet they need money more now)
wobblecopterrrr
yeah, thats a thing, when I was a landscaper, people tipped me around the holidays, even just some cookies, it's nice, soo I do it now, it's not really expected though, like, I don't really talk to the mail people, soo eh...
Sherpafish
I used to get Christmas Eve beer when working in the gulag of Ski Tuning.

Can confirm … I once gave my teacher a tip

Been going on for donkey's years. When I was young it was mostly presents they got, like a carton of smokes.

Boxing day, look it up
keyblader1985
It's not expected, but it happens. Can't say I've heard of it for teachers. But like mail carriers or anyone else who services you on a regular basis, it's not unheard of.
uberAIDSwastakenwtf
I think for teachers it depends on how young your kids are. My sister is a PreK teacher and she gets a ton around Christmas time. Mostly it’s chocolates and snacks, maybe a low-cost gift card

I always tip the mail carrier and the garbage guys.
isphot
ooh the garbage guys! that's a great idea.
hufflesnuff
you have private or public trash pickup?
conklin5
I think it's lumped in with property taxes or something. I don't get a separate bill, so I guess that's public?
hufflesnuff
Yeah, that's public. You'd pay a bill if it was private. I wasn't sure if that mattered. I could see it mattering in school too, but maybe not.
