The name of the car was a subtle dig towards the Pontiac 6000.
The ad for the car seen in the film.

And designed by the legendary Chip Foose

8.2 miles to gallon, in this economy!
NKato
More importantly, that Roadmaster.
Debaucherousgeek
I want to know where that pic was taken. They've got the landmaster from Damnation Alley next to it. 😍
45acp
Without the spoiler it looks like V's starter car in cyberpunk. Modern classic, kind of cool.
DorkJedi
I see you, Landmaster from Damnation Alley

My friend and I took his older brother to see this movie. We'd heard about this scene and we wanted to see his reaction to it. He was an award-winning claymation artist from Vinton Productions in Oregon
teknochode
So long as it has a Blaupunkt and gets really sh*tty gas mileage.
DavidNightingale
"We'll even throw in a Blaupunct!'
MrStealYourGiF
Just get a K-mart stereo and put a big BLAUP|UNKT sunshade across front and rear.

ZeroLyfe
It's an American tradition.
ExTechOp
8.2 MPG is over 28 l/100km.
My old diesel Land Rover Discovery used barely more than 10 l/100km, so something like 23 MPG.

If you leave it running while at the pump, it'll never fill up.

Was that Eric Idle among the panicked civilians?

Subtle?
mhonrado073
Yep.
StarscreamAndHutch
The Landmaster from Damnation Ally casually parked next to it.
LoveDjinn
I noticed that too! I wonder where it is they're stored.
specicom
What's the idea behind the triple wheels?
StarscreamAndHutch
Supposedly to climb tall obstacles , by themselves yeah its been used in other applications and can work, for the landmaster it was just a cool futuristic ‘feature’.
CammunistManifesto
Is it bad that I actually like the way the car looks?
swofromtherock
No, those are your aesthetic taste, which cannot be bad.
NM156
It looks better than an Oldsmobile!
I0VE525P00GE
Hell no, it’s a 6000 SUX
t00tie
YES and also yes.
stayingalive4life
If you put it next to a CyberTruck, you would get almost no judgement for your taste.
dffksh
But does it come with MagnaVolt as standard?
Cataleast
Not at all. I've always found the sort of "cassette futurism" aesthetic quite pleasing. Being a kid of the 80s and 90s, I guess it makes sense :)
cokebot9000
This is the second time in two days I’ve seen cassette futurism. The other was on an improvised call of Cthulhu game. I subscribed to.
fractalsphere
Hehe doesn't surprise me. My first car (granpas old car he couldn't drive any more) was a 1981 Cutlass Surpreme 2-door with bench seats and an AM radio. O.o
Filanwizard
I would hope it had FM too, in the 1980s I do not think they made radios with just one band.
fractalsphere
NOPE my grandpa didn't splurge. But I got a 'used' partially busted AM/FM cassette (that was broken and would eat tapes) radio that I installed badly. But I had FM! :-o
HerpaDerpaBob
I'm pretty sure my 81' Malibu Classic had an AM only radio
HerpaDerpaBob
Had to look it up. Apparently the AM radio was a $90 upgrade and the standard was no radio.
