I prefer the show version over the movie version. In the show version, they drag it out a few seconds and Vegeta starts by trying to get Beerus to take it out on him instead of her because she has no idea who he is, then Beerus hits her and you get to watch Vegeta freak out and grow in real time. He realizes that Beerus is petty and unfair, he realizes that Beerus just hurt his wife, and he realizes he can't live with himself not doing something, even if he KNOWS he's going to die because of it.

Speaking from a purely lore standpoint, there are Jedi who use emotion to be more powerful. Gray Jedi and the Jedi that practice the lightsaber form that Samuel l. Jackson's character Mace Windu does, are very powerful. Even being Sith in the Star wars universe doesn't guarantee that you're going to be evil, it's just an increased chance.

Yep, they had a second kid in the timeskip in the final chapter of DBZ (you see her as a newborn in DB Super), Vegeta's pride won't let him be as bad a father as that idiot kakarot so she's going to be spoiled.

he doesn't want the kids to die fighting the big bad is all. he's taking them out temporarily so he can try and do it and not have to worry about them getting in the way. Those 2 kids are a bit unpredictable.

I will grant you there are several reasons he is the way he is, particularly that brain damage he got when he was a kid, but my statement still stands. He will forever value physical training and fighting over his wife and children. He also seems to frequently use people so he can do more fighting and physical training. Case and point in that particular statement, look at Bulma.

I do agree with you at the core of it; he shouldn't be a father. But we can't compare him to a neurotypical because he's just not. Look at Vegeta - what we see of him, he's good to his family and loyal but still enjoys fighting.
We also can't discredit in what society his character was written in.

Vegeta was willing to pass up training so he could be with his wife since she was dangerously close to giving birth at the time. Goku could not understand why Vegeta would do that. Vegeta was also raised as a Sayan, by Sayans, and that species were not known for being good parents. Goku was raised on Earth, and still couldn't figure out his priorities. Demon King Piccolo was a better father.
