They used the correct Aunt Viv.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm glad the artist kept the original "Vivian". She was a truly power house woman on that show's early days.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Going with version 1 of Vivian, I see.

it's a shame the mom and will hated each other

Poor Geoffrey, having to share a panel with the Shredder.

I'm kinda disappointed that Geoffrey didn't get own panel for he was the exquisitely savage.

That scene hit me way hard when I was a kid. It still messes with me to this day so many years later.

I relate so much to this.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I would watch this cartoon in a fucking heartbeat. HULU! I DEMAND AT LEAST 12 SEASONS

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Fresh Prince was quality programming.

6 years ago | Likes 190 Dislikes 0

At least for 90s standards.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

If it was such quality programming- Why they can't afford no ceiling? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iS5jqXWECbI

6 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

It really was, and I'm happy to have grown up watching it. Wild that none of the cast was ever nominated for an Emmy, though.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Way, way, ahead of its time. Awesome show.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don’t u dare disrespect uncle Phil

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Ugh. No. Uncle Phil is portrayed horribly here. He was a rock in that show. A successful man of principle and honor. Shame on the artist!

The characters look so poorly portrayed here, except maybe Ashley. This bothered me enough to type a message about it

6 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 5

That's because it's the Animu version of it.

I would so watch this cartoon

I hope someone makes this happen!

It's actually an ad for that print on a 30 dollar t-shirt. Available from the site in the link..............................................

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wouldn’t, because it would be “updated” for current times and would likely be trash.

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Eh. Probably just not relatable. But a lot of shows aren’t trash. But I do notice I’m incompatible lately.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It would but id still give it a try.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'm glad they picked the correct Aunt Viv

6 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 2

My teenage self will never forget how she looked in the pink skin tight dance outfit

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

And how she whooped those bitchy girls. That snap.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She was amazing on the show, sad she was an utter cunt in real life to Will and everyone else, Will explained everything in an interview

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Superior original Aunt Viv

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

OG

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The *real* Aunt Viv. It's crazy how she was only in a few seasons and yet still had so much more of an impact. I can barely picture the /1

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

other Aunt Viv. She was so blah. No personality at all. /2

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Because OG Aunt Viv had fire and intelligence and pushed us all to be smart and powerful. One of my favorite role models.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Did they write her differently after the switch, I wonder? Or was the acting just so different that it totally changed the character?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I think written differently in more of a housewife role, whoch was bs after she was this hardcore scholar who pushed everyone to be better

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why is uncle Phil made out to look like a villain? He was like a Milky Way bar: hard on the outside but a total softy inside.

6 years ago | Likes 955 Dislikes 2

Yes, but I don't want a t-shirt that captures Phil's soft side. A lot of the humor of the show came from Will inciting his temper.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

My guess is will did something naughty prior to the artist drawing him

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

One doesn't need to be a villain to be an antagonist

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't so much think villain as permanently exasperated and stressed out by Will's antics.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah, dude was hard as **FUCK**, but John-Wayne-hard, not a villain.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe the picture was drawn by Jazz.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Maybe they didn't mean a villainous look, but Will was probably up to no good and uncle Phil ain't having it

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Thanks. Now I am craving Milkyway and all the stores are closed already :P

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah most of the time, they played him an Will against each other, even though Uncle Phil had good intentions.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Cause he’s the Shredder.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

He was obsessed with those damn tortles.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Was thinking the same. He was hard and angry but he was parent that cared. He wasn't right all the time but he could change.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He was a good guy, but I dont blame him for wanting to strangle Will. He exasperated the old man with his hijinks

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think it's a matter of interpretation. I saw him and was reminded of how angry he so frequently was.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

He's like a coconut. Hard on the outside... But on the inside... Coconut.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

He threw a guy out of his house everyday.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

With The kind of money needed to support that house in bel air, how can you not be a villain ?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Black on the outside, white on the inside..?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Menacing yes but not necessarily a villain.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To be fair for a long time at the begining of the show he was the "Old man who stopped all of wills fun!" but it wasnt till they started to-

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

bond that he became the "oh shit, phil is actually pretty baller..."

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe it's because the actor for Uncle Phil was also the voice of Shredder in the TMNT cartoon?

6 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

What's great is when Uncle Phil was so angry in a scene that Avery basically used Shredder's voice.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Some amazing acting on both sides here. Truly a fantastic show.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Precisely this

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

god that scene still makes me emotional.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If any character has a right to say "he may have been your father , but he wasn't your daddy" its Phil to Will.

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

*cough* General Iroh *cough*

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I agree, uncle Phil is someone I'm sure we all wish we had as an uncle. Loved Will 100%, and treated him like a son.

6 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

So he's like a big, black, rich Uncle Iroh

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

"You are my son. End of story." That's the line that always get me.

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

As someone whose dad left and whose mom never made me feel like I was missing out, I only now understand how well the character was written

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

and played. I wish I had an uncle Phil. I only have one that slowly looses his mind to syphilis and a greedy aunt that tried to disown gpa.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mom, you did and do great, you taught me everything I needed (except shaving, that I figured out myself). ;)

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He was Will’s foil for a lot of the show, though, being the more traditional/conservative authority figure to Will’s roguish archetype.

6 years ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 0

And just to be clear, I agree he was a terrific role model - “foil” doesn’t mean “villain”. He’s the opposition but not a bad guy.

6 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think it would be more fair to say that Uncle Phil was the straight man to Will.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

That’s why I say “foil”, though. His character often provided opposition to what Will wanted to do. Being the straight man is part of that.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Foil and straight man aren't synonymous, though. A foil operates to exclude the main character and undercut them, thereby giving the

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

protagonist something to rise up above. Uncle Phil almost always had Will's best interest at heart, and worked with Will in ways that Will

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Yep, Uncle Phil was a hero, really they all were heros in the long run, that’s what made the show so great, they all went through major 1/?

6 years ago | Likes 260 Dislikes 0

Not Hillary! And they made Carlton a big doofus most of the time. And did Ashley do anything??

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

I think she went through puberty.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

2/? character changes usually brought on by each other, Will learned how to be a respectful young adult but he taught everyone else how to

6 years ago | Likes 121 Dislikes 0

Except the mom actually had a character change

6 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

mostly because the original actress just... DID NOT get along with ANY of the other cast at all apparently. she did NOT like any of them.

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

so uh, they fired her, replaced her, and ... turns out the new actress everyone loved! go fig.

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

3/? relax and live a little and how to have fun and not act so snobby like all of their rich neighbors and friends

6 years ago | Likes 111 Dislikes 0

My favorite part is him discovering his aunt and uncle were a totally different breed of badass altogether. They were the songs of wisdom

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The episode where Will and Carlton get arrested, shooting pool, and Will's dad. That's some damned fine acting.

6 years ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 0

I dont know if the dad episode is based on real things or improve, but it yanks on my heart strings every. Single. Time.
