It always seems a bit shitty to brag about having knowledge or abilities that the next generation doesn't. Either the next generation doesn't need them, or people have failed to pass this knowledge on to them. Very rarely is it their fault.
yeah, I agree with you. This is turning into the whole boomer thing of "nobody knows how to write in cursive blah blah blah...." its cringey as fuck to be honest.
And problem solve. We are already seeing people coming throudh college/uni who have relied fully on LLMs to solve their math, physics etc. problems for them. Whenever they reach the level where it just starts spitting out nonsense(or not allowed to use it), they haven't got a clue how to solve anything themselves...
Had a guy studying to be a medical doctor, already doing clinicals, reactively punch a question into chatgpt he was asked, and it of course pooped out the blatantly wrong answer and he just immediately accepted it as true.
That dude is going to get a loooot of people killed throughout his career.
Stupidly, AI and the LLM front-ends could be useful tools, but most folk want AI to do work they can't even understand, and lack the judgement to know if it's done correctly. Where AI would shine is as analytic tools -like grammar and spell checking but at more sophisticated levels. Not using AI to replace the human contribution but make the effort more efficient. But that isn't how it's shaking out at this point, and the unethical applications being contemplated are distressing.
More importantly they don’t see that what’s being spit out is non-sense: they don’t have the knowledge to look at the “answer” and say: that looks awful fucky. THAT is what knowledge is for - to be able to look at something else and say: hmmm…nope. That’s not right. And be able to back up that feeling with WHY it’s not right.
Or just install one without opening an IT ticket. Or change setting to print it two sided. Or in color. Or how to open a ticket. Or simply connect a vga/pcport/hdmi. We are so fucked
While fair, cloud computing and 'security' are basically stripping any functionality from our pcs except to be ad boxes or typewriters(with chat!). Hard to learn when you can't even click on Start (some of my clients).
What baffles me it is that many barely know how to solve simple issues, especially when the error message explicitly says what is the issue. Like not reading at all. Then comes the ones asking chatGPT for EVERYTHING and still unable to solve, but a 2 min google search gives a clear answer. And i've seen ppl trying to summarize a 4 pages procedure, which were really 2 since it was 2 language procedure...
I dunno if you are serious or not? For a long time now I use Print to PDF and its been flawless. I dunno anyone that uses convert to pdf. Either they work in PDF or they print to PDF.

Weirdly it is the older generationat my job that's loudly pro AI while the gen Zs are loudly against it

It's more of a joke towards LLMs
deaththeunholy
The joke is that most C-levels regularly ask people to do this, and have been for decades in IT, and yes it is also as simple as you claim
NooPogodi
You got any any level jobs?
