#1 looks like either Glamis or St. Anthony sand dunes. Shit gets crazy out there. If you're gonna be dumb, best to do it away from others
AllTheGoodOnesWereGone
If they were any slower in pouring that gas around, then the vapor would have spread and the whole thing would have gone up and engulfed them the moment that guy sparked his lighter.
Pseudosim
Glamis is just a pure darwinism zone. I went out there once (not to dirtbike, got to ride in a sandrail) and there were multiple air medivacs in one day. A lot of concentrated stupid goes on there.
Bubbells
Yeah that is an arrestable offense where I am. There were people were dumping in the area a while back so the laws became much more strict.
MechanicalRomance
I do gotta give thrm credit tho. They went directly from being about as dumb as you can be to handling thatncrisis about as effectively as you could.

Well he didn't die, but that day, he was fired from the "Things that look like steel" styrofoam plant.
SnailsAgainstTungstenSpheres
AimingForAdorkable
He didn’t go flat like a pancake, because it looks like he slipped down & the angle of the tube against machine slope was just enough to give space to not-pancake him
But:
I am 98% sure it still hit him. Video quality is shit, but slowed down, it looks (to me) like he still got hit in the head. Or limbs injured
He might still be badly injured & die of injuries later
Walking away doesn’t always mean they lived. Adrenaline is a hell of a drug. Makes you think you’re ok—until it wears off

If this was the USA, I’d look for an article on it. But it doesn’t look like USA.

I had to cover over the subtitles with my thumb. It actually wasn't possible for me to ignore it with the annoying pop-in
Lucallia
Don't you love it how the Original subtitles are there then there's the OBNOXIOUS AS SHIT subtitles blocking the view of everything overlayed on top and then there's also the USELESS ASS title above it taking up most of the screen space making the video smaller and rendering the best original subtitles even harder to read?! Don't you LOVE it?!!
DanSapSan
The year has just begone and i have already found the most annoying subtitles of this decade.

Even if he had used the parking brake, he never should have left his vehicle stopped in the middle of the road, especially not with a child in it. Also, that kid should've been sitting in the back seat.

#4 Why is the internet full of trains hitting shit at railroad crossings in the US, but not anywhere else?
Lucallia
probably a cross between more dash cams, more people on their phone while driving, and less respect for trains in America. I mean would you fuck around with something called a bullet train? I think in many other countries the general public is more aware or personally connected to trains, like they're used as common public transport. But how many people actually has taken a train in america?
DragonBjorne
We’re bad at trains.
Thefsm
I don’t know about anyone else, but I e renewed my license in two states and had to do the test in each, and neither test involved what to do in railroad crossings. I’ve watched people roll under moving trains to avoid the ten minute wait time as a big one rolls past too. People are idiots.
reinerdefender
That's crazy (and wouldn't be possible here in Germany, since even the longest and most gigantic of freight trains move too fast for that)

yeah only one of them being on fire, and actually managing to get it out relatively fast seems like the best possible outcome considering the utter idiocy and incredibly short fuses.
EpsteinsWeenieHutJuniors
Yeah, honestly it would have been much safer to light a trail of fuel to it like a sane person, but first time I guess.
Hackmastergeneral
I need closure on this. That guy was seriously on fire for a long while. How seriously was he burned, does anyone know? I don't know how those guys didn't think about some sorry of fuse
AimingForAdorkable
I noticed that too. That 1 extra idiotic fucking idiot. He thought it would be funny to light it early, before 1) the other guy was done pouring fuel into the sand & 2) before everyone was ready & cleared out.

It looks like the tube landed on his leg and pinned him in the initial fall so that's probably broken. A moment later the vehicle's suspension bounces it up off him and he slides down below the point of contact, allowing him to escape. He might have any number of injuries being concealed by adrenaline.

No bones, you can crumple into a pile if you are boneless. In all seriousness I cant tell if he landed just right or he is going to be feeling to most pain in the world from all the ripped muscles he got from being put into a ball.

RaZorHamZteR
Watching the interwebs have found out more and more that it almost seem unusual to use the handbrake. I always use it. Weird.
trythebleucheese
You know what? I use the parking brake, as well. I use it anytime I'm on an incline/decline, or unsteady surface. I don't know about you, but I drove standard transmissions most of my driving life, until I was near 30 (I'm 41 now). Using the parking brake is a must have with a standard. You'd be hard-pressed to find an every day car with a standard transmission nowadays.

They probably are supposed to. But (coming from an American) this country is pretty fucking stupid.

In PA you better have an approved permit or the PA State Police will be having a word with you. Without a permit, this word will be in the back seat of the squad car, or in a holding cell.

Same here too. Still doesn't stop trucks from hitting well known low overpasses near monthly tho
stoots24
‘Murica!
ReconditeEidolon
I've seen a documentary about hauling one of these blades and even if you plan a route, some times you get to a location and something has changed recently. That's when it becomes the guide trucks job to measure and make sure the hauler can make a turn, or clear a bridge, etc. They (are supposed to) measure to within an inch so a hauler can deflate/reinflate tires if it will make the difference. If the guide truck says you won't clear it, you plan a new route.
kelloggs
In the land of freedumb you just do it.
dalicevm
I remember when I was a kid down at our holiday home in France one of those huge wind turbines was being transported, well the village our house was in was tiny and there was one particularly tight bend through the town and the truck got stuck. It jammed the whole town up and they couldn't get it out for the whole day. It disrupted everything as it was right on the main stretch where the bar and shop was and all the locals were very angry.
MagnorCriol
Definitely the way it's supposed to be. Someone didn't plan it right and someone else didn't properly scout and adjust. This one isn't really the truck driver's fault (though you maybe could argue they should've said no to crossing the tracks and refused to proceed, I supposed).
iwishjtmoneywasstillavailableitsmyoldvideogamemoniker
Lots of stuff in the comments about what should be done. I can tell you from personal experience, it gets ignored.

ZiomalZParafii
pak0chu
At least the train didn't detail it seems
SteveMND
Prettttty sure it's the same here in the US. Someone got fired big time—and some company got slapped with a major fine—for that little snafu.
Quizz25S
Something like this, gross negligence could easily come with criminal charges. Especially if people get hurt.
casbott
Once again, in America, I'm sure a sizeable enough political donation could help with that.

As well as having friends or just ideological allies in the MSM who can spin it for you.
But then again, that would only be relevant if the charges went far enough up the food chain.
If it's only little people at risk of criminal sanctions then "fuck em" - the CEO.
Rockstarwizkidd
And multiple complex liability civil suits between the trucking contractor, the logistics provider, the railway, the turbine blade manufacture, the installation contractor and the purchasing entity for the turbine. Possibly also the local jurisdiction and anyone suffering from collateral damage. Hopefully no one died or was grievously injured or it gets even more complex. The kinda thing where no one actual wins except the lawyers.
SillySnowFox
I think he was trying to go around the rail arms
GreatLarry
Yeah, he was trying not to damage his payload. However, with the train approaching, he said fuck it and went for it, because some damage is better than total. Maybe if some idiot in a truck who was filming and yelling shit had instead moved his vehicle out the fucking way, things might have gone differently.
witalaska4
I’m an American, and that makes sense. I’m going to write to my senator about this. Thank you for the idea
TrilithonStone
1.5-MW turbine: Blades are typically 110–124 ft long, weigh 11,500 lb, and cost around $100,000–$125,000 each
3.0-MW turbine: Blades are about 155 ft long, weigh about 27,000 lb, and cost around $250,000–$300,000 each
Larger wind turbines: Blades can cost as much as $500,000
pullingsixty
I'm pretty sure that's the standard in most countries, developed or otherwise. Even Dutch Shell in Nigeria had to plan in advance.

100% correct. 2 train engineers were killed December 19th 2024 when their train collided with an oversized load stuck on the tracks in Pecos Texas. It is HEAVILLY regulated. There's a lot of people involved and how something like that happens is INEXCUSABLE. I hope somebody gets brought up on manslaughter charges this.
lildude52ca
how did they die from this? here the engineers have like... how to describe. . . a crush proof closet they enclose themselves in if an acci
lildude52ca
accident is about to happen. they hit the emergency breaks then run to the safety of the crush proof room / closet / box thing.
Quizz25S
Locomotive jumped the tracks and slammed into a building. Rock and a hard place.
twatson21
The train was going 70mph, and they hit a giant steel refinery cracker. Meant to have extreme pressure and heat. No safe room, if there were such a thing, would have helped.
Wolfshead009
That was INEXCUSABLE. The track was blocked for FORTY-FIVE MINUTES and no one bothered to call the number on the crossing gate to warn the railroad. The families of the train crew should be suing everyone involved in that clusterf$ck.
twatson21
The truck was on the tracks for roughly a minute according to the NTSB preliminary report. Doesn't change that it shouldn't have happened, but the facts are important.
Wolfshead009
Then either we are talking different instances or several news reports were grossly in error.
twatson21
The reports were inaccurate, mainly due to the reports spreading on tictok and Facebook as far as I can tell. They also said it was the base of a wind turbine which is also inaccurate. It was a refinery cracking unit, which is much heavier.

swedeonamoose
ye for something that size that would be like 2-3 pilot cars here
andwings2go
This is why I prefer small projects I can do myself, big projects with multiple people always has mistakes. Mainly from everyone assuming someone else did the thing.
cloverleafbane
Turbine blades in the US also get 3-4 car pilot crews and an incredibly detailed and planned route. Rail crossings only happen as a last resort even if it means going well out of the way. Same for moving houses and aircraft fuselage. This one was a major fuckup on the pilot team side.
GMkOz2MkLbs2MkPain
This footage could be why this is the case... safety regulations at least in the USA tend to be written in blood rather than caution and planning.
ChaosInherent
Well sure, because companies don't want to spend money on safety until enough people die to force them to let legislature pass.
