Having seen people *actually* stand up and clap at a sufficiently witty comeback:

Within all the bounds of human behavior and interaction, is it so hard to believe that sometimes somebody can say something appropriate and clever when the opportunity presents itself? Or is it merely that you're projecting your own lack of ability to do so onto everything you read?

The answer of course, is, "yes."
