This is prob gonna get some downvotes

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I don't understand how so many Turkish people abroad support him so much.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Same reason a Brit living in Benidorm would vote for Brexit. Fake grandeur and nostalgia.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well you can thank the US for ISIS.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Northern Iraq 1993, 116 Turkish soldiers attacked a Kurdish village with 12 Royal Marines protecting it. Turks regretted it.

It's a quote from a hitler speech.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's funny because he is a horrible person, but not a racist. He doesn't kill anyone because of hate, just good ole profit.

By going for Godwinian reductionism, you risk overlooking the true horrors of Erdogan's crimes. Don't just label him. Be bigger. Engage.

That is something that the politicians ellected by the people around the world should do. But as always they do nothing!

And my beloved country sells him the tools to do it. Good going Sweden!

Be real; he pointed at the lack of reaction to the Turkish genocide of Armenians as the go-ahead for the Final Solution

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 3

And Erdogan cited Hitlers rise to power as a model for how to restructure the turkish state and the power of the president.

Erdogan - or, as we call him here, Döner Hitler

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Ironically, it was the Turks who inspired Hitler to think he could do it

6 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 3

Doubtful. Hitler was fully committed to ridding Germany of Jews when he wrote Mein Kampf in 1925.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

There one of Hitlers speeches where he sites how insignificant the Armenian genocide was & how it means the holocaust will be forgotten too

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He deceived himself as well as attempting to deceive the German people. Eisenhower forced Germans to walk thru the camps post WW2.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yet ppl rarely speak of the Armenian genocide. For many, the Kardashians are all they know of it

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Armenian Genocide took place between 1915 and 1917, quite a few years before Hitler wrote Mein Kampf.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I understand that. However Hitler didn’t make his statement about the Armenians until 1939: https://www.armenian-genocide.org/hitler.html

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is this the reason why so many Turks enjoy living in Germany?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nope. Around 65% of Turks here hin Germany voted for Erdogan in last election. More than he got in Turkey. So even more patriotic.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't keep up with every conflict. Why do they all hate the Kurds?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Speaking as a Brit, I don't think we, the French, New Zealand, Australia or Canada want another Gallipoli campaign. Happy warmongering.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

But Turks do want that, trust me mate. Sooner or later, they haven't forgotten that war and feeling for revenge won't let them sleep.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They won Gallipoli and gained their Republic soon after. Why do they want revenge?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They had to evacuate the ANZAC French and British forces at Gallipoli after 142,000 were killed or wounded. Hardly a win.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel like we need a full post on EVERYTHING 45 has fucked up royally. It's so hard to keep track of everything but the major stuff.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's not just Erdogan. It's Turkey. Undeniable track record.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

Idk why y'all are surprised. The Turkish military literally attempted a coup to keep this guy from staying in power and y'all supported him

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Poor Kurds...so loyal and compromised with democracy and sold vilely by Trumpland. Wake up Americans.

6 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 11

Why isn't anyone in the EU helping them?

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It’s a bit hard when the US green lights the invasion and the Turks move in within 24 hours.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They do, so many of them have done so. Directly, or indirectly like France and Germany. They were the first to come our aid in the 1/

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Turkey is a NATO member. Many Kurds live in Turkey. It's the YPG that Turkey dislikes, but Erdogan's goal is a larger caliphate.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Germany is trying to force Erdogan.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ypg is with pkk wich is a terrorist worker group. Whom terrorise the turks.

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 6

You can't blame one side in such conflicts. Turkey has leveled kurdish cities to the ground, that's far from innocent.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Terrorist worker group...

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Well yeah they’re a communist group that has long committed terrorist attacks against Turkey, but Erdogan is now a dictator / Islamo-fascist

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. Workers need to be emancipated.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Lol ok Karl calm down

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

So I’m not really sure who to back anymore

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Exactly. But it's Trump's fault for not wanting to be involved in this mess. He put Turkey on notice: they're a NATO member and should not

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

pull this kind of crap, but Erdogan is a dictator so he doesn't care. NATO will not denounce him,UN will not step up. But it's Trump's fault

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

PKK is fighting Turkish terror. Many states do not classify the PKK as a terrorist organization. The PKK has long been an ally for the US

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Off point but why is Hitler always the bad example when others have killed more?

6 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 29

Because Hitler, you may recall, was still a pretty bad guy.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Because we have footage of the Holocaust, and because Germany was supposedly an enlightened nation.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

It's not about bodycount.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

If you exclude body count then history is full of far worse. The truly horrific thing when it comes to hitler was his effectiveness.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's about the danger he represents. He spent a decade undermining the democratic process prior to his election.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The gradual rise of violence, propaganda, misinformation and the power of the Nazi party was slow, at first. The events teach us lessons.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thus, the man overseeing it all became a symbol of the threat that nationalism and xenophobia poses to democracy and to humanity.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Apparently because he didn't engineer a famine but killed people directly.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

King leopold ||

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Even Leo was in it for the money.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Because he has become a cultural symbol if a perceived evil.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Others tended to just kill off heaps of their own populace, rather than going after someone else's.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I know right, like Stalin and Mao were arguably far worse

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 10

Even if you play Genocide Olympics*, no. Two did shitty shit that kept them the shit. Adolf started out with "Let's go on a murder spree!"

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*And don't. Just fucking don't.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He was super popular

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

One factor is that it matters how those killings took place, and why. The holocaust is a well-documented example of everything we find evil

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Cause he went after other countries and didn't just kill his own people. Eddie Izzard explains it well.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Hey, the US kills its own people and I care.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The US also kills people in other countries.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Others killed people as a by-product of ambitions e.g. Stalin. Hitler chose to kill people for the sole reason that he didn’t like them.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Well no, he killed them precisely because he didn’t see them as people.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You could argue he killed them to get Lebensraum.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Because people don't sit down and think, they just go with the flow. Because people are intellectually lazy.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

He doesn’t look much like Mao or Stalin and Turkey is not a Marxist State.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Might have something to do with WW2. I think only like 3% of the global population died in it.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seriously. Not everyone can be Hitler. Can't someone be "The Yoko Ono of the steppe"?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So long as you are killing your own people, no one cares.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He started World War II which was by far the deadliest war in human history, arguably linked to more deaths than any human.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Because with Hitler, the killing was the end goal, not a byproduct of political and economic incompetence.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Stop with this relativistic bullshit. Hitler was not only a mass murderer, the nazi regime was a monster even without the deaths.

6 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 11

Exactly, and they forget that hitler was in power for a decade when stalin and mao were in power for 30 years.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

So was each and everyone of those tyrants, but with more so much more deaths

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Don't get me wrong Hitler can gfhs but so can all the other mass murderers

6 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 1

I think that is, because during WW2 he was portrayed as 'Evil' against the 'Good' ( the allies and Russia) and that just stuck.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

Yeah, if we go too hard making Stalin out to be evil, which he certainly was, it makes us look bad for allying with him.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Mostly due to the circumstances and the way the genocide was committed. While other countries commited mass murder/genocide themselves 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

The industrialization of genocide was what made the nazis appear more brutal than all the others.

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Excellent point though they weren't the first in widespread systemic genocide, merely industrialized it.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Because most of the death attributed to soviet regimes where not intentional, but simply the result of bad policy, and were spread out over1

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Various decades. Famines are the norm in pre-industrialized societies, and the soviets and the chinese failed to properly manage their 2/

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Industrialization proces. The holocaust was not an accident, it was the whole point of nazism

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Rather than politics, bad agriculture, or being "enemies of the state", Hitler went after ppl for how they were born not who they became.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Because the motivation behind the killings was particularly vile in the case of Hitler.

6 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 8

He was just a particularly recent example. Look to history and you will find arguably worse motivations, just less effective.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

What would some of those worse ones be?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Genghis Khan stands out. He was quite a nasty fellow.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

China & Russia get mad when you talk about Mao & Stalin each murdering way more than Hitler. The Nazis lost though, so Hitler is fair game.

6 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 8

History is written by the victors, eh?

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

As a romanian, can confirm!

6 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

To be fair, so is almost every other country's of any power. Not an excuse though! Also, eg. Europe all but stopped that ½ a decade ago.

6 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 6

Talk to an Armenian about that.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Is "½ a decade" really easier to write than "5 years"?

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Dang... meant half a century... All that shit at the ending of European colonialism.

What part of 'military interventionism in a nation without that nations permission to attack another state to defend Kurds' isn't a war?

The Turks didn't invade until we pulled out the handful of troops we had there. That's literally the point of this.

Troops stationed in Syria without permission of the Syrian government. How long did you want to keep them there?

Nice try. Even GOP congressmen and senators are furious about what Trump did. Lindsay Graham is his biggest supporter & ripped him for it

I expect the GOP to be the warmongers. What the hell happened to the left?

The Orange Man did it so the Left is in favor of armed endless conflict and illegally occupying a nation this time.

Oh the grand irony. Thats what happens when instead of sticking to your own principles you rely on attacking others'.

It would've helped to simply not withdrew US troops. Turkey would've never attacked then. That turkey is having a "complicated" relationship

Do you know how many troops he moved? About 100. What magic would have stopped the Turks from invading? You fucking people...

Tiurkey would not have bombed US soldiers. US troops would not have been able to stop a turkish invasion, but turkey could not invade

without (maybe even accidentally) killing US troops. So an invasion wasn't possible for turkey, as long as US soldiers could get hit.

That's btw. a kurdish town in turkey, after 70% of it got destroyed by turkish army (in 2016). If you do this to your own people....

You can't keep troops deployed overseas indefinitely in a nation that never gave permission for them to be there in the first place

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Right, but you can wait for a good moment to withdrew - or choose the wrong timing. You can help to withdrew allies - and maybe even grant

them asylum. Or you can say "fuck you" as the US did. Kurds knew this: "kurds have no friends, but the mountains". Afaik has the US betrayed
