I think gun advocacy groups _have_ come out and contradicted him on this, but in the same weak way as the people who complain a bit about him hurting their small businesses with his tariffs and then going right back to supporting him.

Which is why this actually threatens them. They make their money from donations by those who make money on gun sales. What becomes of the NRA if guns stop selling? It vanishes.
Laws that restrict some people from getting guns, like the Mulford Act, they can just shrug off. But taking all the guns? That shuts down an industry, one that pays them.

Interesting historical note here from a law nerd. Much of our debate about the second amendment didn’t start with guns, but Bowie knives specially. Before the Colt revolver pulling a gun from your jacket and pulling the trigger was not always a sure ‘fire’ thing. Knives never miss fire.

And, rest assured, even the ones who did vote for him will lose guns. "But how can we be sure they won't fall into the hands of filthy liberals" or some such rot. No, nobody keeps guns unless they join ICE - and I don't think even Trump's imaginary economy can afford 70 million agents.
