Of those whom English is their first or only language, an alarmingly low percentage of them actually speak or write English well. And Iâve noticed the less knowledgeable they are of English grammar or vocabulary, the more intolerant they are of people who speak English as a SECOND language.

I feel like when its your native language, at least when I was a student, you only seem to be given the basics to English, as long as you can speak/write well enough to be understood, thats considered enough. But you hear people who have been taught it as an additional language, they seem to be taught a lot more of the nuance and eloquence.

That's a common issue, not just among english speakers. The problem is that you learn the spoken language long before you learn it in written form. If you learn a language in school, those two usually happen simultaneously. Reading makes it better, since the correct spelling gets etched into your brain... but not everyone likes reading.
