Car almost stationary, clear image of plate

Car going perhaps 25MPH past, can get plate if you look at enough frames or get lucky

Car going 35MPH past, need to get very lucky with a key frame to catch the number

Car going past at 50MPH, basically no chance of reading the plate number.

All varieties of camera are about the same. 30 FPS makes things visible. 60/120 is more readable but low light sucks then.

Read: "I bought the wrong camera for what I need because I didn't do any research and that's somehow not my fault."

I have now owned about 12 different cameras, from many manufacturers including GoPro. This is the same across all of them.

I didn't ask how many you had. I said that you didn't get the correct device for what you're trying to do.

Also, capturing license plates is not something I'm "trying to do" - it's just a question i get asked a lot and so I posted these samples

As far as I can tell, there is no correct device for capturing license plates that is also portable to a vehicle.

With a single frame it's tough. However if you can get multiple frames to work with you can do a LOT of sharpening. Not simple though.
