Near the end of the run we Space Jump through this room to get Xray. If you intentionally land on the spikes, you can use your iframes to build up more run speed than you had in order to get through the rest of the room about half a second faster.

But can you save time by moonwalking into the wall before the door to get extra runspeed, and have a frame perfect switch from moonwalk to forward to keep momentum?

Probably too difficult to get that to save time on average. :)

Speedrunning isn't about average times, it's about absolute perfect-run best time possible.

It really varies. Races and tournaments are won by being consistently fast.
For PB attempts, especially on a run this long, there's no point in going for every possible framesaver if you're not consistent enough to get them. Jumping on the last possible frame from this platform might save a few frames at the end if you get it, but if you miss you might throw away 10+ seconds.
Most speedruns are about risk/reward tradeoffs, and recognizing when it's prudent to go for safer strats.
