I was in Oregon once and saw one of these and stood there and read it. Looked up and 150 yds away at the tree line…there she was. Huge cat.

What's north America's largest cat if not the cougar? I thought cougar/mountain lion were just different names for same species.

Cougar/Mountain Lion/Puma/Mountain Cat/Catamount/Florida Panther etc... Depending on where you live it can have one of 40 different names.

Correct. There is no such thing as a Panther. Panther is the family of Cats. Lions, Tigers, Leopards, and Jaguars all belong to it.
