We picked up a delivery for our one of our local Dollar Generals. (The good one with the public bathroom, not the other one that pretends they don't have one.)
They ordered:
6-pack of Coke x3
20 oz Coke. For, you know, when the first 18 bottles just aren't quite enough.
The delivery instructions warned us about an aggressive chipmunk that hangs out under their porch, but we didn't get to see it.

The 18 pack of coke is for the squirrel who is going through withdrawals. Because last time someone delivered 400 ounces of coke he burrowed into the plastic bag.

My guess is the 18 are going in the fridge/etc, while the single (which you probably grabbed from a fridge) is meant to be drank right away. I do similar when I forget to buy a case of soda, cause I want something to drink now, but also need the rest for the upcoming couple weeks.
