On this day of celebration
In this, the hour of celebration (a bit sooner to come for me in mainland europe than most of you in the US) let's take a moment and think about those who aren't celebrating.
The depressed, single people who are sitting at home alone, just watching TV or browsing Imgur, maybe listening to some music.
The veterans, who still carry their war within them. For whom all the firework is sounding a little bit too familiar.
Those who work today. The doctors, nurses and paramedics who will have their hands full with people who don't have theirs anymore. The police officers who have to keep the peace between all the drunks and partygoers. The firefighters who will have to put out plenty of a different kind of fire works tonight.
Everybody who I forgot to mention, who is hurting for some reason, something that happened to them, or maybe didn't happen. Those who lost somebody dear, or are simply depressed for another reason.
Join me in raising a mug of beer, or any other beverage of your choice, to those who aren't celebrating today. Join me in this toast.
May 2016 be better to all of you beautiful people than 2015 was.
I'm sitting here alone with my cat, raising my beer to all of you. Skol!

Meet Freya, my 15 month old girl who is doing an amazing job in keeping me on the edge of depression instead of falling straight in.
