Hummingbirds: "I shall daintily sip nectar out of this flower in a delicate aerial ballet..." Woodpecker: "IMMA STAB THE BUGS OUT OF THIS TREE WITH MY FACE KNIFE"

That one is looking to drill a hole in the house to store his acorn.

Woodpeckers in my yard land on the hummingbird feeders and slurp up a day’s worth of a hummer’s food in a minute. Pests.

That woodpecker is carrying an acorn which means it's looking for a place to drill a hole and place that acorn in it for storage. It also has a clan of friends. This is a bad thing.

Hello, trypophobia!

Absolutely this. First year I moved into my house I heard a random tapping noise, going outside to find a woodpecker had drilled a hole as big as a golfball into my siding and was trying to store food in there. Even after covering it over they kept trying to come back. Look into hanging windchimes and reflective "bird scare" items outside the house where you see them congregating.

Whoa. Good to know. It’s the only one I’ve seen but now I’m warned. Thanks.

I believe he is explaining Acorn Woodpeckers. This looks like a Red-Bellied Woodpecker which are more solitary and don't stash acorns like the Acorn Woodpeckers. But I'm no expert, just a birder who has observed quite a few of both species.

Yes, the Merlin bird app identified it as a red- bellied woodpecker

Good to know if true. My local acorn woodpeckers have red caps and normally pick mature oaks as granary trees. Occasionally they decide that the side of a building is the thing to drill holes in.
