How about a note from Epstein's mother?

I got this: if a doctor's note from a licensed medical professional isn't valid for a medical excuse, then a certified and licensed teacher cannot be trusted to educate my child. Check...and *mate*.

Republicans are scum. All of them. They're either kiddie fiddlers, or they protect the kiddie fiddlers. Complete trash.

"Yes we know Timmy that you have cancer and that you're doing intensive chemo therapy this week... but unless you want us to expel you, you NEED to come in, ok buddy? Now put that coddling bitch you call a Mom on the phone, because I need to threaten her too, thank you."

These are the same mf'ers who'd call a dying employee and wonder if their dying means they'll be late to work tomorrow? THROW THEM OUT!

100% guarantee that Rebecca Sanchez, quoted in the article, will be reported to ICE by local GOP.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Republicans are relentless on their war against children. They won't be happy until kids are dropping dead in the religious classroom.

What ever happened to 'let parents decide what's good for their kids, not the guvmint'??

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is an excuse to kick already sick and disabled kids out of school. Schools in america are not designed to teach anymore, they are designed to fail.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

LCSS: We will only excuse children killed in mass shooting that occur of school district property. Don't just show up with a corpus and expect them to be excused.

"The policy states that after three absences, schools will start intervention. If the student keeps missing school, eight or more days, there will be a juvenile court referral." Kids miss school and get treated like a criminal. Screw the school, I bet the number of parents home schooling their kids will skyrocket.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'd bet that you're right. I'd further wager on selective enforcement; that administration isn't going to be sending many well-to-do white kids to juvenile court for getting sick. It's Tennessee after all.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They require a note from a priest

8 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

That's fine if they're sick just make sure they go to the office first and just make a 100% sure they've talked to everyone. Also ask lots of questions from close up

8 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

TOUCH **EVERYTHING**, while wiping your nose with an open palm and coughing without covering. Give 'em the full Monty!

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

One of the lowest rated school districts in one of the lowest ranked states in the nation does a weird thing. Not surprised.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Would a preacher's note be acceptable?

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

What in the actual f***

When my little sister was in high school they made backpacks and bathroom breaks against the rules…

I was in grad school to be a teacher, but the climate of education was abhorrent. I walked away.

8 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I would riot if they told my kids they could not take a piss whenever they want.

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Under the republicans/conservatives the human race will die off...

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

sooo, silver lining

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe I'll just get my pastor to write me up a note saying I can't be in school instead then. Checkmate Republicans (also go fuck yourselves)

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

As if unexcused absences do anything. We can't hold kids back. We can't keep them from playing sports. We can't discipline them. Source: am teacher

8 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Came here to say “So.”

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In this case five unexcused absences equals a summons to juvenile court for truancy.

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Non-shitty organisations don't require a doctor's note for an excused absence. There's lots of types of illnesses where you should not be going to school or work, but if you dragged yourself into the doctor's office, they would tell you, "you need rest. What the fuck are you doing here? Just go to bed for a couple days."

8 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Most organisations require a doctor's note if you're off sick for more than 2-6 days (depending on organisation).

"you need rest. What the fuck are you doing here? Just go to bed for a couple days" - LOL. That's no way to run a for-profit business that gets per-Rx kickbacks from pharmaceutical companies! /s

What's up with that link? Someone else click it

8 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

So much redirecting through the Google app, but it's just a local news story.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I changed the link to a direct one. Apologies for being lazy

8 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

OK fine no paid sick leave for school administrators and principals. No-shows due to "illness" will be disciplinary writeups. Since that's apparently how they want to run the "real world" that they're supposedly preparing kids for.

8 months ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

As a teacher, go right ahead and try this fuckery. You'll have an entire school full of sub requests within a week. And a bevy of lawsuits to boot.

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

'While there will be exemptions for verified chronic illnesses and several other things, Adkins and other district officials said during the meeting that students need to learn reliability and work ethic. “If you have the sniffles, that is fine,” Adkins said during the meeting. “You are going to have them when you go to work one day. We have all gone to work sick and hurt and beat up.”'

Oh, great, it's THIS flavor of absolute bullshit.

8 months ago | Likes 293 Dislikes 1

Schools have been prisons for a long time now, this just reinforces it

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A good work ethic is to not infect your collegues. 1 person missing for 3-5 days is better than 10 people working at 60% for 3 hours and pretending to work the rest of the day in a neverending cycle.

8 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

ANY disease that makes you cough, excepting bronchitis and COPD, is contagious. These people are asking for more to get sick. The students. The teachers. Other staff. Visitors.

I want these officials to be present in the classes they're forcing contagious children to attend. Back up their alleged "belief" with deed.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

this is an american problem.
here in australia, management will look at you weird if you even suggest coming in sick. they don't want sick people at their workplace.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah fuckin no, my mom instilled that in me and I held onto it for the longest time. I used to go into restaurant jobs sick and serve food. Even if I washed frequently, took precautions, is that something you want from your server? Covid put the complete stop to that mentality but it took a long time to put the final nail in the coffin. Weird part is if OTHER people got sick I'd be the first to say go home.

8 months ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 0

one of my fondest memories of struggling to afford rent was vomiting into a trash can intermittently between working the fryers at Chick Fil A. That happened several times.

Somebody is about to go to work beat up….

Training the next generation to suffer.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People absolutely should not be going to work sick, that's why we have sick days....oh right, America, they just take them off your annual leave right, or something like that.

8 months ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

They fetishize allowing yourself to be treated worse than a medieval serf... "I worked 90 hours last week and got spat on for pay" like it's something to be proud of instead of blunting the pitchforks...

8 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I read that as "Adkins is attempting to murder children by intentionally spreading illnesses."

8 months ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

i would like for every sick child to cough directly into Adkins' stupid face orifices at every opportunity they get, please

8 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Instead of making children go through this, maybe we should not make adults have to go through it.

8 months ago | Likes 150 Dislikes 0

But this will be disrespectful to the memory of all those people already ran over by the trolley.

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It's frakking nuts. So glad my boss makes it a point that if I or my co-workers (or our children/spouses/live-in family) are sick with something communicable, we are expected to STAY THE HELL HOME. Mostly because we cannot afford to have everyone be out sick and unable to work at the same time.

8 months ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

In countries that aren't absolutely terrible in basically every part of society that's the average expectation ?

8 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

In the uk everone gets paid sick leave after 3 days. Most large companies will not dock your pay for a couple days sickness over the year. Everyone gets the sniffles every year and no one should feel forced to work when sick. Fuck this late stage dustopian capitalism bullshit. Tax the rich 92% like we did in the 1950's .. the golden age.

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's not about work ethic, that's a cover up. It's school to prison pipeline, kids can end up in jail for truancy.

8 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Oh, I'm sure it is about work ethic, too, in the Arbeit Macht Frei sense... Also encourages homeschooling or one of those private voucher schools, undermining public education right from the start and channeling government funds directly to private corporate pockets.

8 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

So who the fuck can excuse it? I parent takes their time and spends money to take third child to the doctor there is obviously something wrong with the child. This country is fucked.

8 months ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 2

Wait, general practitioners cost money over there?

8 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Everything cost money here. They'd charge us for the air we breathe if they could. That's capitalism baby.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's the school to prison pipeline. Look it up.

8 months ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

The parents still make the decision as does their doctor. Op is misleading people. https://www.mnps.org/students-families/handbook/policies-and-procedures/attendance

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 33

Fucking swing and a miss, champ.

8 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

That's Metro Nashville, not Lawrence. If you read the article, it specifically cites MNPS as still having a sane policy, unlike Lawrence.

8 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

That's not even the same school district my dude. MNPS was only mentioned in the article as an example of a district with a normal attendence policy.

8 months ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

It's a link in OPs post.

They want to improve attendance rates by *checks notes* intimidating parents to send their sick children to school to infect other children?

How else do you undermine public confidence in public education?

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"Guns just aren't convincing people to stop going to public schools, so we can't profit from them or control what they learn. Let's switch to bioweapons instead!"

Or just suffer through the day with a broken limb or whatever non communicable thing

8 months ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

American conservatisme logic... shortsighted and with no understanding

8 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Prepare them for the working world, where most companies don't give a shit about doctor's notes either. "You've got the flu? ...You know your shift starts in 10 minutes right?"

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

They're incentivized to keep everyone in school, sick or not: "Lawrence County Schools said the new policy is to address the chronic absenteeism the district has. The state tracks this: absences for any reason, including those that are excused. "

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just use some incense and essential oils, and your kids will be OK. If they are extra sick, then throw in some thoughts and prayers. If you're from a holy roller, snake handling church, then they might be demon possessed and you will need an exorcism STAT.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They want to punish the weak.

8 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

They just need prayer.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A grade school kid my wife was working and was traumatized by missing parents and things that had happened at school and was trying to do a homeschool program instead but they kept on giving him fits and actually locked him up in jail for a week for being tardy. Conservative county Washington State.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you get too many theyll drag the kids into truency court, im almost wondering if that's the point. Source: i was that sick kid who got their hospitalizations marked as unexcused absenses. Had to go an hour into the city for them to threaten me w juvy type schooling. Over a decade ago now but still

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's how jobs work. 🤷🏻‍♂️

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

No excuses not to go to school, no excuses not to go to work. Now march, slaves.

This.

Yes. Get them all sick, remove their healthcare and bury them. Conservatism at it's most fascist.

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Did you read it? The article is exactly leading with what it says in the title.

8 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I didn't read anything in that article to contradict them. You are either present or absent, no excuses. If the school nurse sends you home you are tardy.

8 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

If you didn't read the link, you are ignorant to the entire situation. End of story.

As an excuse to call cps and take the kids away from their families?

8 months ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 1

Yahoo: Highly contagious disease surges in some US states. ... and Fox: "Might Want To Avoid Using The Water On Flights".

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's Tennessee DCS, and the article says: “It would be a family services case where we would work with the family on any issue they may be running into in getting their child to school,” the DCS spokesperson said. “We are not involved in every truancy case. It is very much a case-by-case thing.” Which translates to: "We weren't aware of this bullshit until you showed it to us just now."

8 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

We also won't look as hard into absences from white kids, but any other case will be treated as if the child is a delinquent.

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I mean that's just a longstanding statewide policy, nothing to do with this nutbar from Lawrence County. 😬

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

More school to prison funnel. After too many absences = juvenile court. I read the article on this, and it is batshit insane. Image a kid with cancer or even a kid that gets recurring respiratory infections.

8 months ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

It's sad. The only solution will be to pull your children out of school and homeschool them. In some states, you don't need documentation for primary school.

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

This, and drive parents to home school their kids

8 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Hmmm.... freelance private teachers? Like a home daycare, but for students

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Just any normal kid.

I got sick A LOT when I was a child.

The only reason I am alive right now is a 100% science, and thanks to God that I was vaccinated -see what I did there?- and raised with hygiene and access to medicine.

I’m sure one of the 5 worst virus that got me -like measles- would have killed me otherwise.

So glad I grew up middle class in a world renounced metropolis. Not everyone get that.
