It's also why the women they end up with are typically incompitent too because they were never allowed to develop more then the men around them. Smart women are a threat, hence their hatred of AOC, and Jasmine Crockett.
I remember how often Limbaugh would just tell his audience "I'll do your thinking for you." I'd written it off at the time as just arrogant bluster trying to be funny. Didn't realize until much later how it's truly just him promising his audience they'll never have to think again, nor understand how much that appeals to some people.
Sorry but this is extremely dumb. IQ does not measure intelligence. It was invented by a French psychologist to test for learning disabilities in school children. He didn't call it the "special needs quotient" because that's not very nice. Using IQ as a metric for intelligence without understanding what it actually tests for makes this whole study pretty fucking stupid.
How do you explain people with PhDs working in higher education supporting TPUSA? I have a colleague who is 5 years post PhD and was “devastated” when Charlie Kirk died. We don’t talk anymore. She doesn’t understand why.
Agreed but I took something different from this post.
Immature men date other immature adults. Conservatives tend to be immature and emotionally stunted and often try dating younger as its easier for them. They find consenting adults who tolerate their bullshit.
See, I'm still gonna question that. As much as I want to agree, it seems like too much of an absolute. I think they can also be ignorant, selfish, or just evil.
I'm not a smart man, but I can smell BS like a MF. That and being raised Catholic until my heathen Lutheran wife saved me. Catholic education taught me to think critically. Art taught me that you can be anything you want to be. Republicans taught me that they don't care about anything but $$$$. I'll use my money to take care of my kids so my kids want to hang out with me when I'm old.
Had two MAGAt coworkers tell me, to my face, that gas prices are falling since the start of the iran war. We live in the same area, pass the same gas stations every day, and they literally argued that prices, which jumped 80¢ in a week, were going down.
I literally si not understand how they function day to day, being that stupid.
I always get the "ick" when anyone mentions "IQ" as an actual standard of intelligence. You can't divorce IQ from material conditions. Sure you can apply it to say Matt Gaetz or Stephen Miller or Pete Hexith who grew up rich but then other conservatives or "centrists" like Bill Mahr or Barri Weiss will try to apply it to refugees or outside the western cultural context, without any accounting for material conditions to attack Somali Americans for example.
There is no class or demographic that MAGA benefits. Not even billionaires. The only ones who benefit are those who are personally in on the grift. All other supporters are just useful idiots.
There was one guy at work who would go on about how he took an iq test and it said he had a near genious level IQ. This is the same man who, in an office full of women, said he wants a wife desperatly so he has someone to cook and clean for him. Was the stupidest motherfucker i know.
a worldview is like a jigsaw puzzle: one's comprehension of an individual puzzle piece relies far more on an understanding of the pieces around it than it does an understanding of the piece itself.
It's not accurate to say that they're stuck at a 'child level' of development. A seeming correlation between ignorance and conservatism doesn't automatically mean that these people are stupid or have failed to develop - it could mean many things.
Intellectual laziness or heightened fear, for example, could also explain the mindset. Conservatism offers a safe and ordered society which appeals to people, even if that society is an illusion and in reality is cruel and oppressive.
Evil is the other one. Stupid or Evil pick your exact flavor (stunted development, intellectual laziness, over whelming greed or racism) all of them will eventually sort into one or both of these two big categories.
Yes, it is. Human psychological development follows a highly documented, predictable set of steps. If someone stops on one of those steps they are, in effect, stuck at a child level of development. Physiological development also follows steps- if someone stop growing at age 10 no one would question what happened. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it isn't happening.
I saw a study that I wish I could find again, which saw a split between people who are driven to spend time seeking the truth, and those who aren't. Basically some people are just not intellectually curious enough to question the statements they're given, or to try to fit them into what else they've learned and see where they do/don't align. And it's not that those people are stupid. It's that that's not what drives their learning. Unfortunately.
Putin, Saudis $-Watch for Trump to pull a Netanyahu: far behind in the polls, facing trial for corruption, mass protests against his long, long reign...suddenly terrorist attack (border left unguarded, warnings ignored, mostly peace kibbutzim, hippies killed) and Israel at war ever since. National security! War-time President for life. (ICE guards at all polls) aka the George Bush. https://www.motherjones.com/p">imeline/">https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2011/12/leadup-iraq-war-timeline/ https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna32501273 1/
#2 I've wondered about that. I had no choice in being straight. This girl got on the bus one morning in a denim miniskirt, and I couldn't not notice. I didn't even like her... she was a snob! However, it fired something in that deep-reptile part of my brain. How could anyone think this was a choice? Well, if they are deciding to deny reptile brain to fit someone else's definition of "normal", maybe they do see it as a choice.
It's like some combination of seeking hierarchy/authority/"right answer" and inability to see from another's point of view. The so-called right answer that men will notice women is all they try to emulate. But if you also noticed a pretty guy in jeans they would refuse to acknowledge that was an innate drive out of your control because that would be the wrong answer because it is outside the hierarchical approved attraction men are allowed to have. Its so damn stupid...
I think there are some who are truly bi or gay, and since they themselves have made the "choice" to "be straight", they call it a choice. And I think there are others who are straight and who realize some people are attracted to the same sex, but they just say, too bad, that's wrong, so you have to push it down and hide it. Just like they do with men having emotions, or women being unhappy at being a domestic servant. They're supposed to console themselves that they're doing the right thing, /1
I guess, and just give up on being themselves and doing what they actually want to do. Same kind of thing as following in your dad's business when you don't want to. You're supposed to just walk that one proper path, regardless of whatever feelings inside yourself are telling you to get off that path. It's pretty sad, really. I guess this is why they're desperate to believe in a reward after this life, too. Because they're sure not getting it in this one. /2
The sad truth is we're doing these people, and society, a disservice. If someone stops mentally developing at 2 years old we provide them services (woefully inadequate, but they exist) to help them to live and navigate the world. Yet, if someone makes it to about 10 they're just cut loose, out there taking out pay-day-loans and buying scratchers. Our cruelty makes us all suffer.
You can't help someone who doesn't even know they need help. I can't speak for all countries, but in the USA we've made huge leaps in the past 30 years in identifying and assisting the developmentally challenged. If we broaden those efforts and continue them into high school, it could prove incredibly beneficial.
There's truth in what he's saying. Hence people working in higher ed are more liberal, while cops are likely to be conservative. But saying low vs high feels simplified. A key component to conservatism is a strict adherence to hierarchical structures. God, government, then men as head of the home. They can be intelligent but will still adhere to the structure. Thus, intelligent flat Earthers or JD Vance saying shit like "Daddy's home." Intelligence is used to force a worldview, not adapt to it.
Some intelligent men pretend to hold conservative "values", because they're power hungry sociopaths who use any convenient ideology as a way to control and wield the idiotic follower masses against the politically unorganized intelligentsia in the world.
With regard to hierarchy, that very much depends on the flavor of conservatism. For example, I'm not religious, I believe that government often makes problems worse rather than better, and sure, I'm the head of my home, but I am single at the moment. On the two axis political spectrum, I land somewhere between conservative and libertarian (not the clusterfuck that is the Libertarian Party). I am far from the only person that holds these views. We just get drowned out by noisy assholes.
