"Luke Martin’s wife Beth, 28, died while on holiday after becoming ‘delirious’ and unwell upon arrival. She was rushed to hospital but died two days later.

Luke had to break the news of his wife’s death to his distraught children.

In a further horrific development, the UK autopsy revealed her heart was removed after she passed away in Turkey - without the family’s knowledge or permission.

The hospital is now being investigated for negligence."

Wait what? Let's read that again "In a further horrific development, the UK autopsy revealed her heart was removed after she passed away in Turkey - without the family’s knowledge or permission."

"negligence" ?? "Oops sorry we took your heart out. Well, since you weren't using it anymore..." W T F

Were they trying to do an autopsy, sell black market, or eat it?

This is bizarre...

Organ donations law in Turkey state that organs that don't cause a significant change to the body, may be removed for donation after death, without needing permission.

Now that's interesting.

From what little I know about organ donation laws in Turkey, "tissues that do not cause a significant change on the body, such as the cornea, may be removed from a deceased person without permission" after death. Very possible they didn't realise she was a foreigner.

But how far does the not realizing go. That place is a shitshow. Did they have someone "important" who needed a heart. Went to get a "disposable turk" and accidentally grabbed a tourist?

Turkey has good and cheap health care - it even gets 178,000 medical tourists a year - so "shit show" seems unreasonable. It is entirely likely that her heart was removed in error (various possibilities) - especially since it has to be done within 24 hours (or less, if the body isn't refrigerated soon after death).

At any moment in the US, there are ca 50k people on the wait list for a new heart. Even with a smaller population, I don't think the Turkish dr needed to wait for someone "important"

I really don't get why so many people go on holiday to Turkey. It's a sinister dictatorship with a terrible human rights record.

But it’s named after a big silly bird, how bad could it be? - honestly this isn’t even a joke, I bet this is some people’s actual logic

Cheap hair transplants.

For many in the west, they simply didn't pay much attention or ignored it willfully. As a tourist, it doesn't affect the vast majority after all. And the tourist centers are obviously beautiful. But then you also have lots of tourism from other directions, most notably Russia, since it's a popular connection to the rest of Europe when traveling. Last but not least there's the medical tourism, since both dental and plastic surgeries are very popular to be done there.

Similar to the USA then ?

They're a few years ahead of the USA. But not a bad example for what the US could become if they continue down this path.

Because most people are idiots.

While I agree with this statement, Turkey is a beautiful country, insanely rich culturally and with very welcoming people.

Welcoming... unless you're Armenian or Kurdish.
