If people had not treated it as a joke, but had seen the potential for thermonuclear catastrophe, and the media had pounded him into the ground with a constant stream of "fuck no," we might not be where we are today.
This was the EXACT plot of Look Who's Back (2015). We had all the warning signs, the media treated it like a joke, but his dark words resounded with the angry and disenfranchised. Suddenly, it wasn't funny anymore. Definitely worth a watch!
If only more people had treated it like the joke it was. He should've been laughed out of the Republican primary when there were still a dozen candidates running.
To be clear: His choice to run and everything he did on campaign was a joke. The rapid support he managed to build was not. Very few could handle that dichotomy, and saw either both as a joke or neither.
And everytime I brought that up on here, I was called a Nazi/Republican for pointing out that it wasn't really much of a choice. The DNC didnt give a shit what the people wanted and ended up doing the same thing, again.
you were just wrong about it not being much of a choice, we ended up losing reproductive rights, we're about to lose the voting rights act, the court ruled that the president is above the law, millions lost healthcare coverage, anti-fascists & LGBT are being branded extremists, saber-rattling Venezuela & several threats of annexation of multiple countries etc. oh there was SO much choice
People in this community will never admit to the fact that the entire reason they have to deal with Trump is because their OWN PARTY changed the rules so they could force Hilary Clinton on their voters, that wanted Bernie Sanders. And since they refuse to address that, its gonna keep happening. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/aug/25/democrats-rules-superdelegates-sanders
please read your own link, the DNC voted to limit superdelegates' influence after the election, it was the Bernie crowd who complained about superdelegates, this change was a good thing, although Hillary would have still won with just the regular delegates too. youre just spreading conspiracy stuff that demotivates people away from democrats
No your right I posted the wrong link. The super delegates screwed Bernie in 2016. So they made that rule, than when it was working for Sanders, they tried change it again and allow the super delegates to vote in the 1st round. https://www.politico.com/news/2020/01/31/dnc-superdelegates-110083

This was back when it was still believed that republicans had values. Or morals.
Turns out they never had either one.

I remember Jon Stewart also doing this "please run" bit... who could have foreseen

I remember watching that very episode. It was pretty funny at the time.

All I know is that I was furious come election day when I had to pick between an corporate clown and a military spending loving centrist
