That awkward moment when you can't tell the difference between things you think are myths, and your own religious beliefs?

2 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 3

All his song was about glorifying nudity, like "you cannot hide a gun when you're naked", unless...

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All I'm taking away from this is that Gorlock has a French cousin (and Gojira rules!).

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I didn't see the opening ceremony.. why are people angry about Bacchus?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

fuck religion, this was cringe as fuck

Oh man my sister in law is going off on this "mocking Christ" bs

Guy playing Bacchus is Philippe Katherine, phisically a bald small and fat guy, artisticaly a genius, once maried who i consider one of the most beautiful woman in the world, Helena Noguera.

If it gets mid-western (US) people to eat the occasional green roughage I am hard-pressed to argue with it.

Just so they didn't waste their outrage, whatever religion it is, I am mocking it. Like right now, and there, I did it again!

2 years ago | Likes 82 Dislikes 9

No way? Yaweh!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh no. Are you going to use images vaguely reflecting one of the most recognized pieces of art? I feel victimized.

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

Wow! How dare you?!

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

But, what about my very special and correct version of religion? Surely you wouldn't mock that because it's full of good people like me!!!!

"It would be entirely different if the French were mocking muslims" is unique take I've heard... you mean like when all of France stopped for Charlie Hebdo's right to publish depictions of Mohammed?

And?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Also there isnt any religion being mocked. The cene isnt some christian-only iconography. It is a piece of art belonging to whole humanity that have been tributed many time before. It is a storm in a jar. There isnt really anything to get angry about.

2 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 2

well, in Spanish language, this would be called "Tocar los cojones".

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's not even the piece of art they think it is, either. The whiners think this is based on The Last Supper, but it's based on The Feast of Dionysus. The latter painting was full of naked women feasting with the Greek God of drunkenness.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Wut now?

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Some people thought they were mocking The Last Supper when in fact they were depicting the celebration of the greek festival Bacchanalia.

I've also heard the term "devil music" used unironically to refer to Gojira's performance.

It's just a painting. I'm sure they weren't all on one side of the table at the real last supper.

I remember reading that the style of eating then was lying on your stomach.

Conservatives don't even know their own fictional mythological characters, let alone Dionysus.

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 3

That's because religion is nothing more to them than a way of telling people what to do.

Unfortunately they've never read the book and don't realize that even it abhors *everything* they've become. It really is wild.

"In the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, betrayers, headstrong, puffed up with pride, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, having an appearance of godliness but proving false to its power" 2-Tim, 3:1-5

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sound familiar? They're literally the prelude to the end of the world in their own book and not in any of the righteous ways...

But if you show them that in their own scriptures they'll just point fingers and not see the irony or hypocrisy in that. Unreal.

IT'S NOT THE LAST SUPPER. The guy in blue is Dionysus, a Greek god, cause ya know, the olympics started in Greece.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

It was the a parody of the last supper, you stupid idiot https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/sport/article/2024/jul/28/paris-olympics-organisers-apologise-to-christians-for-last-supper-parody do your research before commenting, you moron.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 7

Who the fuck cares. Stop being fucking whiny.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wow, someone's angry..

Literally from the article you linked:

The parody of the biblical scene, performed against the backdrop of the River Seine, was intended to interpret Dionysus and raise awareness “of the absurdity of violence between human beings”, organisers wrote on X.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

'Angry' says the person writing in all capitals the wrong information. Literally from your comment: "The parody of the biblical scene." That means the bible, follow? It was a parody of the last supper, what are you not getting here? That is why people are getting upset about it, follow?

I'm actually going to defend christians a little here, because they were shown the last supper and told that's all that existed, they don't have the knowledge generally that practically every festival they celebrate is based around earlier pagan festivals they have been taught one truth, not all of it. Basically they don't know any better.

There are many factions of Christianity. Not all of them withheld the translation of he Bible. But then most of them still don't read it to day.

2 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

Yikes

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

As a Christian, no this is not a defense. It is far too easy to find this information. The only ones this could possibly apply to are those poor people trapped in cults that never allowed them to have an education.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

"They're stupid" isn't a good defense

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That shows how profoundly critically thinking is crushed by religious indoctrination. If my first thought was this looks like it is mocking the religion of over 2 billion people (and from just a pic out of context it can) I would seek more info, because that line of thinking is absurd...but to the indoctrinated they never stop to think, it's react, feels over reals, never admit to being mistaken, never seek knowledge - the whole forbidden fruit myth and all

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Plenty of christians saw this and correctly recognized it wasn't about them, including a lot of catholics.
Ignorance is never an excuse for attacking people, even if evangelicals like to preach otherwise.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

They're mad that they had people in drag at a Bacchanal, you know a Greek party. They assumed it was mocking the Last Supper. Oh and a metal band played.

2 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

Conservatives feel threatened when they see lgbtq people. Even if it's on another continent.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The band was Gojira and the song was about the French revolution.

America doesn't have classic art. Our country is younger than many of the buildings in Paris. Because of this, American knowledge of art history is very lacking and the ceremonies had leaned very hard into art.

Does America have an equivalent to the Louvre Art Museum?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There are idiots claiming that there were 12 people in the exact poses of the last supper. None of the pictures I can find had 12 people and none of the poses were close.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Probably the Met.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The Met is approx 2 million sq feet vs the 650k sq feet in the Louvre but the Louvre is considered ranked the #1 museum in the world due to classical art and sees about 9.3M visitors a year vs #6 Met at 6.3M a year.

It goes Louvre, Nation Museum of Natural History (DC), Nat. Museum of China, Nat Air and Space (DC), British Museum, Met, London National Gallery.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The two you listed in DC are popular museums but they're not art museums. Met would be the closest thing that the US has to the Louvre.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe not museums in the traditional art display but I would still be excited to go there. If my wife and I ever make it up to the Smithsonian, we would plan to spend a few days hitting multiple buildings.
