Guy playing Bacchus is Philippe Katherine, phisically a bald small and fat guy, artisticaly a genius, once maried who i consider one of the most beautiful woman in the world, Helena Noguera.
"It would be entirely different if the French were mocking muslims" is unique take I've heard... you mean like when all of France stopped for Charlie Hebdo's right to publish depictions of Mohammed?
Also there isnt any religion being mocked. The cene isnt some christian-only iconography. It is a piece of art belonging to whole humanity that have been tributed many time before. It is a storm in a jar. There isnt really anything to get angry about.
It's not even the piece of art they think it is, either. The whiners think this is based on The Last Supper, but it's based on The Feast of Dionysus. The latter painting was full of naked women feasting with the Greek God of drunkenness.
"In the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, betrayers, headstrong, puffed up with pride, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, having an appearance of godliness but proving false to its power" 2-Tim, 3:1-5
I've heard complaining about "this would be different if it were insulting muslims"... honey, France united behind Charlie Habdo's right to free speech and the massacre that followed.
The parody of the biblical scene, performed against the backdrop of the River Seine, was intended to interpret Dionysus and raise awareness “of the absurdity of violence between human beings”, organisers wrote on X.
'Angry' says the person writing in all capitals the wrong information. Literally from your comment: "The parody of the biblical scene." That means the bible, follow? It was a parody of the last supper, what are you not getting here? That is why people are getting upset about it, follow?
I'm actually going to defend christians a little here, because they were shown the last supper and told that's all that existed, they don't have the knowledge generally that practically every festival they celebrate is based around earlier pagan festivals they have been taught one truth, not all of it. Basically they don't know any better.
As a Christian, no this is not a defense. It is far too easy to find this information. The only ones this could possibly apply to are those poor people trapped in cults that never allowed them to have an education.
That shows how profoundly critically thinking is crushed by religious indoctrination. If my first thought was this looks like it is mocking the religion of over 2 billion people (and from just a pic out of context it can) I would seek more info, because that line of thinking is absurd...but to the indoctrinated they never stop to think, it's react, feels over reals, never admit to being mistaken, never seek knowledge - the whole forbidden fruit myth and all
Plenty of christians saw this and correctly recognized it wasn't about them, including a lot of catholics. Ignorance is never an excuse for attacking people, even if evangelicals like to preach otherwise.
They're mad that they had people in drag at a Bacchanal, you know a Greek party. They assumed it was mocking the Last Supper. Oh and a metal band played.
America doesn't have classic art. Our country is younger than many of the buildings in Paris. Because of this, American knowledge of art history is very lacking and the ceremonies had leaned very hard into art.
Does America have an equivalent to the Louvre Art Museum?
There are idiots claiming that there were 12 people in the exact poses of the last supper. None of the pictures I can find had 12 people and none of the poses were close.
The Met is approx 2 million sq feet vs the 650k sq feet in the Louvre but the Louvre is considered ranked the #1 museum in the world due to classical art and sees about 9.3M visitors a year vs #6 Met at 6.3M a year.

Conservatives don't even know their own fictional mythological characters, let alone Dionysus.
MisterLemons
That's because religion is nothing more to them than a way of telling people what to do.
Unfortunately they've never read the book and don't realize that even it abhors *everything* they've become. It really is wild.

MisterLemons
Sound familiar? They're literally the prelude to the end of the world in their own book and not in any of the righteous ways...
But if you show them that in their own scriptures they'll just point fingers and not see the irony or hypocrisy in that. Unreal.
