Loved season 1. Didn't really care for season 2. I remember ages ago listening to an audiobook for Long Dark Teatime of the Soul read by Douglas Adams. It was absolutely amazing.
She is also in a couple Chucky movies, and plays multiple characters in the TV show: her movie role of Nica, Chucky, and a younger version of Charles Lee Ray.
Dirk Gentlys Holistic Detective Agency. Holy shit what a good show. One of the only shows ever to make me say "holy shit what the fuck" multiple times pet episode. And Elijah wood!
Holistic assassin. The universe places her and her target together. She kills who she feels like, and they seemingly can't hurt her, presumably because the universe wants them dead
Wanna feel old? The movie Independence Day came out longer ago from now (28 years) than the Apollo 11 moon landing did from the release of Independence Day (27 years).
She wasn't. The only part of this story that Douglas Adams had actually written or story boarded was that Dirk got hired by the rich dude and was in route to the town.
As a massive fan of the book I actually really enjoyed this series despite it being very different to the original content. An absolutely wonderful show that should never have been cancelled!
Fiona Dourif was really great. She's the daughter of Brad Dourif who (among other roles) was Piter DeVries in the 1984 version of "Dune" and also Grima Wormtongue. He was also the stranger in the video for Toto's "Stranger in Town"
A very poor adaption of Douglas Adam's Dirk Gentley's Holitstic Detective Agency- it's its own thing that completely misinterprets the joke of the books story.
I interpreted it less as a "poor" adaptation and more as "inspired by"... Not all books are set up to translate into a tv/movies without (sometimes dramatic) changes.
IIRC, the HHG2TG film gets a lot of flak for being too different from the books, but D Adams was very involved in developing the film adaptation's development
That series was a trip! I absolutely loved the first season, but it was so all over the place that it was bound to have a steep fall off. You just can't capture lighting in a bottle twice.
Better yet, there's two entirely different ones. One UK based one that is somewhat like the books, and a US one which is completely different, but manages to be completely unhinged in just the right way (which this gif is from)
there are two, one older one with stephen mangan with just 4 episodes, which I enjoyed, then the newer one with elijah wood (from ~2016) with a bunch more, which I also enjoyed.
(Plus, Douglas Adams also wrote for Dr Who, and tended to recycle ideas, so you could almost put *Shada* as the original Dirk Gently TV, if it had actually been filmed)

I miss this show so much I re-watch it like once a year
GhostOfPierceHawthorne
That's Fiona Dourif. Her dad is Brad Dourif, of Wormtongue and Chucky etc...
GhostOfPierceHawthorne
She plays a pretty good holistic assassin.

Never has a daughter looks so much like her dad than she does . I think her dad is a great actor and highly underrated .

So, are all her stats in luck?
YevKaseem
Basically. She's a holistic assassin, meaning that the universe puts people that need to be killed in front of her and she kills them.

Thanks for the reminder. I need to rewatch this. She was easily my favorite character.

Her acting was amazing in this show

She’s an amazing actress. I love her in the Chucky movies and the series.

Her dad was the voice of chucky

I’m aware. She’s fantastic when she impersonates him in the Chucky series.

While I don't believe Bart was in the book she is very much so something Douglas Adams would come up with.

First season was very fun to watch. I loved the bridge hostage scene in particular.
Second season was meh.
