I don't speak for her, but I want to amplify her story because part of the resistance isn't just objecting when they attempt to erase anything and anyone that doesn't fit into and support their vision of a world which recognizes only the accomplishments of white men. We must make it impossible for people to forget the fat more beautiful and complex real world. We must make sure everyone remembers the struggles and accomplishments of people like Rose. It may be a small thing, but it ensures that they will never truly win because no matter how hard they try, they cannot erase what we refuse to forget.

One of the rules from Snyder’s On Tyranny:
2) Defend institutions. It is institutions that help us to preserve decency. They need our help as well. Do not speak of “our institutions” unless you make them yours by acting on their behalf. Institutions do not protect themselves. So choose an institution you care about and take its side.
Defends women in science. Defend women in public, government & corporate spaces. Defend women’s rights in general.

I just got this book finally and am equal parts excited and afraid to read it

It’s a quick read but yeah it’s heavy when you realize the parallels to what’s describing in history. We’re in a bad spot.

Straight, white, cisgender male here.
I'm an aerospace engineer at another company. Thinking about all of the *obscenely talented women* I work with day to day - smart enough and kind enough and patient enough - to make me feel both miniscule and welcome in the room at the same time... this enrages me. Let me just say - my mentor, our principle electrical engineer, my manager, our communications electronics chief engineer, my teams lead software engineer... all women of different backgrounds.
doc70
We should be flooding Melania's inbox with info like this.
shadolance
And they are some of the most brilliant minds I have ever had the honor of speaking to and working with. Without a shadow of a doubt, we would not be where we are without every own of them and I wouldn't pick anyone different for my teams. I'm unbelievably proud of each and every one of them and I hope they'll continue to be patient with me as I continue to grow in my career. To our STEM women - we love y'all, and hope you keep coming in droves!!! We need you!

Just want to note this as well: https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-announces-installing-himself-chairman-050513469.html Trump has fired the chairman of the Kennedy Center and appointed himself as the new chairman. The rest of the board apparently will soon also be replaced. Only pure Aryan men will appear on stage from now on.

Anyone wanna bet that he won’t eliminate their rainbow design ASAP?
Their “Logotype symbolizing ‘a spectrum of many skills within the performing arts’.”
The backlash he’s gonna get from legends in music, acting, comedy, etc when tRump does that is gonna be fun to see.

rubypilgrim
He may take over the Kennedy Center and its trappings, but he doesn't understand what it is. He thinks he can just substitute whatever he wants to think is "culture" and that it will magically be so. That's not how it works. The esteem and authority invested in the Kennedy Center will simply transfer to other venues/institutions, as it exists in the artists and their supporters, not the building or the leadership.

Without women NASA wouldn't have done shit.

And wasn't it women from bra factories that sewed the first space suits? They needed someone who could sew within very tight tolerances, so they got women from a bra factory!

Yeah, they had "computers" - literally women doing math. It was a woman who invented RISC - the ARM chips phones and some computers use, they're much more efficient with power although smartphones and tablets weren't a thing back then, they were used in computers, I'm not sure why
Aristocrats
RISC has fewer instructions. What you will typically give up are a couple of memory instructions. As feature density skyrockets by literally orders of magnitude, 6+ orders of magnitude, there's an initial advantage to let those features to more work for the programmer/compiler. And you have things like superscalar pipelines to really blowup how many instructions you can do per clock. But when that hits the wall, distributing work across cores makes that trade worse for heat dissipation and kW.

Republicans are the ones who are the true snowflakes if it isn’t about an all white male fascist nationalist ,what they want is to erase woman people of color any marginalized group of people for their contributions in American society so fuck each and everyone of you who voted for that orange diaper wearing Adolf Hitler wanna be dictator

It sounds like this is about removal of highlighting her BECAUSE she's a woman. Although it certainly seems like she earned it for being an exceptional story of accomplishment.
thedarkdesert
Can someone please explain all of the Trump anti-DEI stuff for a confused foreigner? Isn't this basically just firing/limiting/etc people for being female/POC/etc, which would be illegal under even the most basic discrimination laws? So how are they even able to do it at all?
Daraanel
Yes. And they can do it because there's - so far - no-one to stop them. They have Republican judges in important places in the court system and hold the Supreme Court. Trump's loyalists are being put at the head of organisations. Very briefly, this is all being actioned by Executive Orders, which are not laws, and so do not have to go through the House and Senate (where they would possibly not pass). They're seeing what they can get away with - and so far, it's most of it.
Daraanel
The disaster scenario is that even if the courts say 'You can't do that', Trump/Musk's response will be 'so what?' and then keep doing it. Who's going to enforce the court's ruling - the police?
Blunderwriter
Why are there so many people who are just shit. She sounds like an amazing person...anyone should be proud to even stand beside her or shake her hand.

He already did. Its selling to China we should be worries about now. We know full well Trump is all talk, but if he can sell us for his own gain, he will sell to anyone.
ignotoCiResto
oh comrade, the "fun stuff" is still on the way. I mean, on the first day he already outlawed trans and abortion in a single move hidden beetwen the over 200 presidential order he signed. With those two quibbles, he formalized that *at the conception*, well before the fetus is even formed, there is acknowledgment of personhood (so it's not abortion but homicide) and it's denied the right itself to be a trans. Hope usa is ready, cuz the asshole just started.
Bystandr
Pretty sure this woman in particular voted blue, but you arent wrong, either.
GarmBlack
Oh I don't think SHE caused this. Just with the title, it's depressing that a lot of those people voted for this to occur.
cousteau
And the worst part? They'll never acknowledge their role in this mess. They'll just see things going worse in their life, blame it on some random shit, and keep voting the same way.

DutchBoeremeisie
I don't think it was specifically to do with removing women in STEM, but that it fell under the DEI policy (which also affects women in STEM - but I just wanted to clarify for people who might want to look it up for more info, as I did.)
Poopette
It is though. The whole point of any DEI effort is to elevate stories and people that don't fall into the boots club. Eliminating it and erasing stories that celebrate those is touted as an effort to make things "fair" and "even" or whatever, but that was the point of the program to begin with, to level the conversation and include voiced that we're institutionally diminished and unrecognized.
Karma1970
It ABSOLUTELY is about removing women from all fields that isn't a fucking kitchen and you need to see it for what it is.
DutchBoeremeisie
I meant the specifics of the policy, for people who wanted to search online for more info (as I said). The policy doesn't state "remove women from STEM" (even if that is it's aim). If you want to Google this stuff, it knows what to look for. That is all I meant.
InternetAnonymityplz
DEI policy is a convenient shield for them to say "everyone who isn't a white man was a charity hire." It is absolutely about removing women and non-white people from everywhere. So you're right that it isn't specifically targeting STEM I guess but... I mean, seems worse to me.
cousteau
Their mindset is probably that "women are intrinsically inferior to men, so any woman in a position of merit has arrived there because of DEI", so just wiping anything involving women, people of color, LGTBI, and other minorities is a safe bet.
demoncatmara
And it's wrong, I literally hired a trans woman because she's so smart, I'd say she's a genius. She does so much charity work too, and is just super sweet and kind (and pretty, they did an amazing job with the transition - my mum was being a bigot last night, says she wouldn't trust her around kids, despite only knowing good things about her, I can't think of a single flaw. I'd marry her if she asked, she has a partner tho and isn't into men, which is not a problem, just happy she's a friend)
lljkstonefish
Well, that post went off the rails pretty quick...
demoncatmara
I know you said women but she is a woman IMO, I know not everyone thinks so but it doesn't hurt to be respectful, if being called a woman is what someone wants there's no need to start on about basic biology, these people only know basic biology, it gets a lot more complex and a lot more messy with the advanced stuff (can anyone explain it please I can never remember it)
cousteau
For me "transitioned to woman" is considered "woman" at least in how I consider them, but even if I didn't she'd still fall in the "other minorities such as LGTBI" part which are also getting wiped out
dashers
https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/nasa-website-dei/

"However, a page about women at NASA still appeared on the website as of this writing." TL;DR: they chickened out and put the page back online by the time Snopes checked.
LordofGoats
And it's either in a new place or they took it back down, because it ain't there now, at least in English. I've added the Spanish version and the internet archive of it to the description.
KafkasKarma
And they claim trans women infringements upon women's spaces, erasing them and all other kinds of bullshit..
OtterlyMagnificent
It's always projection. They know that they can convince people that 0.5% of the population is a threat, so they can conceal the 40% that are ACTUALLY a threat.
Rhythmaster
It was never about protecting women. The holocaust was never about protecting germans from jews either, but they convinced enough people of the lie.
Mairoa
Yeah it gets pretty obvious when the whole "well researched bathroom opinion speech" doesn't have an answer for trans men. Or the fact we outnumber trans women 3:1. We're fucking everywhere yet break most transphobe arguments. Like fam, y'all already had a boy in a girl locker room. My ass, for years! I felt creepy the entire time and had no idea why, but it was still creepy!!!
KafkasKarma
I know. It's just so frustrating to see
