It's extremely important that NATO does NOT act in cases where a member state is an aggressor. It would reduce global trust in NATO and its members, cause other nations to form counter-alliances, make member states leave and make others not want to join. It would completely undermine everything NATO is meant to accomplish.

How about in cases where a member of NATO invades another member of NATO? The only reason we have military presence in Greenland is that Denmark allowed it. Trump keeps floating the idea of taking over Greenland and Canada.

Greece and Turkey joined nato in the 50s. In 70's they went to war over cyprus. Nato didnt militarily intervene but did work as a mediator.
I expect much the same to happen again, except massive sanctions would be applied to USA; withdrawal of petrodollar and reserve currency; abandonment of MC, VISA, massive taxes on US businesses to put pressure on Trump and then EU would wait for 2 years and hope a sane government gets elected.

Read some time ago that for every Billion dollars lost in tourism equates to roughly 15,000 lost US jobs. Be a very long time, and require huge societal and governmental change for the better before I’ll step foot or spend a dollar in the USA. afghanistan invasion itself also was not a result of that article 5 invocation, although some nato countries participated outside of nato command structure. in fact, the US went into it alone because they didn't like the way nato worked in kosovo.
