I suspect there was a bunny or chipmunk that did or tried to get refuge. People don't have to get too worried about coyotes unless they linger or take an interest in humans. We see one or so say an evening a month since we back onto a ravine (where the trees are there in the background). For those not familiar, never feed these critters. They'll appreciate the human behaviour, freak people out or harm someone/something and then this inevitably results in their destruction. These ones weren't keen to stick around when they saw me appear on the deck (just above and later), which is good news for them and us.
