There's always time for more Japanese high school marching bands....

Title is inaccurate… ‘cause they’re on fire.

The people in the crowd who are clapping off the beat upset me very much.

Fun, but is it a marching band when it can't march?

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I want to celebrate more!!! Too short!

Japanese High school bands are sensational. You can find some outstanding examples on You Tube.

And this one time... at Japanese band camp

bless Tachibana for an ongoing supply of cute, fit, band nerd girls, some of which go on to form jazz, brassy rock and metal bands

Humans are cool.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How do they match with the trap set and conga drums?

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In case anyone doesn't recognize the tune, it's "Celebration" by Kool & the Gang

I think I heard it at a brass festival in the Netherlands once. I had to flee at some point in order to maintain my hearing though, because these things are LOUD.

Thank you! I knew it was something from my youth but couldn’t place it.

More of THIS at the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade and less sucky sucky.

The smiles are all great, especially between the horn players

Was there a cut in the first like 5 seconds of the song? really?

Social media attention spans. At some point, we won't have any videos anymore, only static images that can be quickly scrolled past.

Full circle, got it.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It has got to be really difficult to be in a marching band when you are on the drums

Why are there never any 'Pyrotechnics without performance' posts? Feels unfair.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It'd be a lot cooler with pyrotechnics though.

Can barely contain the grins. Love it!

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm lost, why would there be pyrotechnics?

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There are two kinds of performances. Those with pyrotechnics and those without pyrotechnics. Hope this clears everything up for you.

No... not at all

I need more marching band music in my collection. Ant tips?

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I use to counsel at camp and we shared the grounds with band camp from a nearby state. They would practice all week and then put on a show for our kids at the end of the week. Our kids went nuts every year. They loved it.

Is this what happens when you don't feed your children trash at a public United States school?!?!

2 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

To be fair, a lot of US school systems tried to improve the health quality of public school lunches. The problem was that US kids wouldn't eat it. Because why eat a celery stick when the snack machine is in the same room.

Don’t tell Disney!

Pretty sure the Kyoto Tachibana band has performed at Tokyo Disneyland.

I was going to ask for a marching band anime but of course it exists...what's the title?

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hibike! Euphonium. (Sound! Euphonium)

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Its like k-on, which is also good.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I somehow expected Japan high school marching bands to be less .. exuberant? Wonder if this is common.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

To be fair, we are talking about the same country that developed Kabuki.

Though, also Noh. So...it kind of evens out, I guess.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My impression is that Japanese teenagers are allowed to be exuberant - but as soon as you graduate you are expected to be a good worker drone if you're a man, or housewife if you're a woman.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's also generational change that's slowly working into the rest of society everywhere, Japan included. Slow, but happening.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Plus its a "classic performance" where your audience is relatively far away. Exuberant movement and expressions are normal there, because you want to communicate to people who can be like 20-30m away.
