Watch & Learn: Kizomba and Sara Lopez

Hey guys, GIG here and I understand by the time you've read "GIG" you are now staring at the amazing Sara Lopez. You probably haven't even read that or anything else I will have written. I get it. So these words are for those who want to learn more about not just Sara, but the dance called kizomba.

Kizombada (shortened to Kizomba) means to celebrate or party and it originated in Angola, Africa (One of Portugal's colonies) in the 1980s. It's a dance and a music genre altogether. It is a derivative of semba (not the Brazilian samba), with a mix of kilapanda and Angolan merengue, and sung generally in Portuguese.

Kizomba is a close dance but is only as romantic or sexual as you and your partner choose to make it. As with any social dance, courtesy and respect are basic expectations, so there’s no need to feel intimidated by the social floor.

These beauties are Albir Rojas(Panama born) and Sara Lopez (Spain born). Contrary to popular belief they are not a couple, but because this dance is just so sensual and because they do dance a lot together it is easy to assume that they are. Albir, one of the best and probably the better known kizomba instructor in the world, is telling the audience that it is all about listening to the beat. Each step synchronizes with the music. Even though they are not dancing partners anymore these two together are my personal favourite kizomba dancers because their chemistry is just unbelievable. (And I've had a massive crush on Sara for ages. I mean just look at her man)

Kizomba has become an umbrella term which people use to refer to several genres of music, including Angolan kizomba, Cape Verdean coladeira and cabo-love, ghetto zouk, tarraxinha, and European remixes – much to some people’s annoyance.

I hope not but this post may even catch some hate due to the many "ways" kizomba is or isn't what it is. What I mean is there are so many different genres and dance styles that may sound and look the same to most. The genres explained above often fall in the same category when they shouldn't. Even the gifs you will see may not all be exquisitely kizomba because sometimes they will perform a movement from other genres because it flows and it looks good.

By now I am sure you boys & girls can see just how captivating this dance is. The music is just the same. It is honestly very surprising to me that it is not bigger in the Western society. Even though the past couple of years it has been making a scene in many parts of the USA. The bass, the romantic lyrics, the amazing sex party feel and somehow at the same time it can look so fancy and groovy this genre is something I know many of you will learn to love upon having found this post.

Sara has literally gone around the world showing her dance moves with pros and beginners alike and even doing her solo moves. Over the past 5 years-ish or so she has gone to many festivals and she has even been in a few music videos. Here you see her at the Festival Italiano della Cultura Angolana, the Italian festival of Angolan culture in April, 2016.

The guy she is dancing with, who appears to be her most recent partner named Reda, is clearly not on par with her. Not saying he is bad, but this is a simple looking dance that does require confidence in your hands and not so simple dance moves. He is not pushing her to her capabilities and it often looks like she is trying to make him look better for her sake. Maybe he just had a bad day, maybe he was going easy, maybe I'm just not a fan of his.
As much as I find her beautiful she is only perfect with Albir. Again, in my personal opinion.

Imagine holding a woman of this calibre with all her experience and having to lead her in a kizomba dance in front of an audience. I know I'd lose my mind in embarrassment and probably have wet pants. But somehow Albir gives it to her.

Some of you are probably still doubting Sara's dancing prowess. In this gif by just looking at asses you can very obviously tell who's shakin' it better. Some of the other girls weren't so bad. Fusion salsa fest 2015 certification of kizomba in Mexico.

I think I have typed enough. From this point on down I will keep the words short and sweet. I dare anyone to show me a sexier woman & dance combo on the whole internet than Sara Lopez doing whatever the hell she's doing.

These two are not afraid of tarraxinha. Tarraxa means ‘nut bolt’ and inha is the diminutive, so tarraxinha is a ‘little nut bolt’. That’s the sexual innuendo with the word: little nut bolt wrapping around the screw.

Maybe that's why I like them as dancing partners better.

This is Wojtek, a teenager kizomba prodige from Poland. I saved this for last with the full purpose of showing you the best. This kid can dance. Maybe at first glance you wouldn't think so but just look at him go. Sara is having a blast as well as she probably didn't expect him to be that good. He has a YouTube channel with a bunch of goodies so go check him out.

Boys, don't let yourselves down. Just dance well with the hottest chick you can find and everything else will fall in place. Seriously though, don't be discouraged.
