In a drunken rage (j/k I don't need alcohol to rage), I blamed imgur for these fucking irritating popups. there's a third one as well that shows on larger images on imgur called "Enhance" that's meant to "enhance" the video you're looking at.
The boxes with the downward right pointing arrow is "Picture in picture" and it moves the video down to the right bottom corner of the browser (another thing I have always hated in a browser).
The little "a" on the right is Edge's Live Video Translation feature, which provides real-time AI audio dubbing and subtitle translation for select languages.
It didn't happen on other sites, so I blamed imgr. But it's Microsoft Edge.
To turn off the translate videos popup button in Edge, navigate to "...", click "settings" and search for "Offer to translate videos on supported sites". Then toggle off "Offer to translate videos on supported sites" like this.
To turn off the picture in picture popup button in Edge, navigate to "...", click "settings" and search for "picture in picture". Then toggle off "Show Picture in picture control inside video frame" like this.
To turn off the "Enhance videos" popup button in Edge, navigate to "...", click "settings" and search for "enhance videos". Then toggle off "Enhance videos" like this.
I wish I could claim I was drunk, but I was just stupid.

i tried edge for a little while since its already integrated into the OS and google is being an asshole, but i dropped it because each time it updates (which is almost daily) it resets settings and logs me out of everything. i know this isnt happening to everyone, but based on searches this problem seems to be 3 years old. im gonna have to disable the auto-update services

I quite like it. The vertical tabs implementation is still unmatched by any other browser, to my knowledge. It was the case as of a year or so ago when I last checked.

I wanted to cleanly separate my work and personal stuff while still being able to use my same logins and passwords. Edge was chosen for social media cuz...well, it's social media and any old browser shoudl be able to handle that, right? (smh)

I use Brave for torrents and Firefox on my Android because Chrome on Android is UNUSABLE because of all the ads. I like Chrome's Google Lens because it's so easy to find stuff with but I wish I could have completely different Google accounts for YouTube etc. and use Chrome simultaneously with diff accounts.
