On a related note - a local Radio Station and a local Grocery Chain used frozen turkeys as Curling stones - where the winners of the curling barnspeil would receive cash and 15 minutes of fame. The turkeys disintegrated before too long, causing the end of that contest and a scramble to come up with another game.
"I swear to God - I thought frozen turkeys could slide!"
Commercial turkeys have also been fucked up via selectively breeding. Genetic hypothyroidism + gigantism ftw. On top of the rapid weight gain, their endocrine problems cause extreme fatigue, which is often what we call "domesticated" in case of livestock. Docile animals who barely burn calories because they lack the energy to move around much.
Don't forget they recorded Les Nessman's reporting of the turkey drop, then replayed it back for the actors playing the crew at the radio station, they're improv acting to the recording!
Farm turkeys and wild turkeys have such different physiques that they could almost be considered separate species. Even with wings unclipped, I imagine a farm turkey would at best be able to slow its fall a little bit. Wild turkeys fly as well as any bird.
The wild ones do, but the domesticated ones are so heavy they can't. I remember reading an article about conservation efforts to restore the wild turkey population when I was younger and it involved releasing a full clutch that flew away.
I see so all the negative energy that you guys suppress and put on a facade of polite cheer is transferred to the goose, makes sense why it's such an angry bird.

Cincinnati when the turkeys dropped.

Hot take , an episode I found funnier was when Herb accidentally painted his daughters frog pink

IT IS NOT NOVEMBER!

They don't fly.... If they're still frozen

You don't see any of it. It's all the facial expressions of the people in the studio. Absolutely brilliant.
ToasterDent
The improv to the recording of the reporter! Some of them almost break out laughing but they keep it together and deliver!

Oh the humanity!
historycat
Turkeys can fly if they aren't raised in factory farms.

One of the most singularly hilarious moments in filmmaking.

I was today years old….
That’s amazing.

They do fly.
SteveD31415
They do indeed. We almost got one through the windshield once.
Freightshaker
I hit a flying turkey with my tractor trailer; feathers everywhere.

Yup, not particularly well but they would not be smashing through parked cars unless frozen solid.
marktheshark911
They do. I've seen a wild turkey 30ft up a tree.

The farm turkeys had their feathers clips so they can't fly and so he was dropping farm turkeys
ElSoyYo
They are also bred with a different conformation that keeps them really close to the ground.
allenvasher3000
Yeah but he specifically says they are brown which would have to be a heritage breed.
Buffoonery
Mr Carlson should have used frozen turkeys
Isthe4thtimethecharm
Not to mention fattened up so much they wouldn't have much of a chance anyway.

It's a little early for this, but I'm going to allow it. Carry on everyone.

It's turkey day on Monday here in Canada.
TheShoctopus
Oh! Well do you guys eat those mean gooses as a show of revenge and dominance or do they eat you?
KellyCrazyCatLadyinTraining
Now THAT is something I never thought I would read, lol. XD
thrashingcows
No the cobra chickens are the manifestation of Canadian rage and anger and therefore the meat is not that palatable. ;)
PressthamGravey
They actually taste like full on liver. It's gross but common.
