Long trip on major Parkway. Followed by a much larger version of that camper, check rear view, see two young people having naked sex in the 'loft'... Have trouble driving with one hand...
This was available as a set of plans, the sort sold in the classified pages in Popular Mechanics. The same guy, Robert Q Riley, who designed & sold this one also sold plans for futuristic looking camper vans, tiny commuter cars and diesel-electric hybrid sedans built on VW Beetle & Bus frames - these were used as props in the 1980s Total Recall movie!
You're about 10 years late for #vanlife but some people are definitely trying it. Seems like it's a decent solution but few people tend to stick with it for more than a few years.
It's odd, did the move the engine to the front? The Volkswagen Beatle famously had the engine in the rear, but that's gone now. If the engine is still in the rear, then the inside of that camper is going to be a lot more cramped than at first glance.
Maybe they just took the front off of a beatle and put it on another car. But ok, then they'd still have to find room for the engine of that car under that hood. 🤔
It could fit under a bench or the bed at the back since you will need one/both of those anyway. The beetle's engine isn't very big. Could also have an EV conversion which flattens the space used in the engine bay quite a bit (though range on the conversions I've seen isn't usually great). Bigger issue is going to be speed though as the classic bug was already struggling to hit highway speed without the boxy snail transformation.

Underappreciated niche pun, well done.

Maybe more practical than you'd think. Although you're not getting anywhere FAST, that's for sure. https://www.theautopian.com/the-rare-volkswagen-beetle-super-bugger-is-the-slowest-cutest-way-to-go-camping/

I'd argue that the BMW Isetta with a camper trailer is both slower and cuter.

https://www.classicargarage.com/archives/bmw-isetta-300-1957 more pics of that setup here. Not really as practical, but definitely even slower.

I don't know how practical that is, but it's awful cute.

Cute as a bug, some might say
BerryButcher
If you can sleep in it laying completely flat it's already practical

Sure, the parts just come apart and click together like Legos.
