They want people to work unlimited hours for slave wages and be happy about it.

The same reason health insurance is tied to employment, America things if you can't/won't work (at whatever job/wage) you shouldn't live.

I preferred to stick around to challenge that system rather than running away because it was too much work.

The idea of being able to manage adversity, I think. Problem is we'd been indoctrinated to accept work as "work" and as adverse by nature.

I recently asked for a salary raise. I got it. It covers the 10℅ inflation rate. I got more than i expected. Im gonna work my ass off happy

this happens when you can't make the difference between grit and submissiveness

Everytime they celebrate 40 years at job, I remember how many of them got fired or laid off year before retirement.

Getting food on table for ur kids through a job that require boot licking requires courage. Dont undermine ppl who work and go through 1/2

Same reason health insurance is tied to your job 'you won't take whatever shitty job, you and your kids shouldn't live'

Difficult situations. Yes, there is a need for higher wages but until then some of us cant leave just like that.

Because they did it, and never had the balls to stand up for better, and refuse to admit they were wrong. Ergo; you're doing it >

> differently, so YOU must be wrong while THEY clearly picked the manlier, tougher, hardier, insert-adjective-of-choice-ier option.

Can I pick "stupid" for "stupider?"

I'm a new boss/owner and the incompetence ive seen is staggering. Friggin eagle scouts refusing to mop or plunge a toilet, or WIPE TABLES

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So you're terrible at hiring. You got a plan to find better people?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Back in my day, eagle Scout meant something. And I'm 29 so that wasn't that long ago... You shouldn't defend them unless you're one of them

As well being happy that you work over 40 hours each week. Acting proud that you worked 60-100 hours a week isn't a flex, it's sad.

If you work overtime all the time.. your company regularly pays you .66 of what you're worth.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We interrupted a coworker humblebragging about working long hours to tell the new hires not to follow their example. It's not impressive.

Killing yourself for a job isn't admirable; it's unhealthy and tragic. And it rarely translates to improved results imo.

Jip.

There is absolutely no reason for any of us to be working 40 hours, let alone more, especially for the money they pay these days. We've 1/

Got more than enough people and more than enough resources. It's fucking stupid.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There is a TV add running that says, "picking up extra shifts so you can support your family...that's success!" The irony is unintended. 1/

We have been betrayed by everyone who claimed to know better. Fuck debt, fuck corporations, fuck every last rich asshole.

But the boomers told me I'd be conservative when I'm older

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Because they wanted to conserve what they had while stealing from us

Was the gig economy ever presented as being anything but a supplement, or did the news just make that up and run with it?

3 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

the corps and the news sell it as a supplement, but in many cases it's just a way to get the same job done on the cheap

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

For my understanding, gig economy is based on like music shows and such correct? I’ve never heard of those

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It refers to things like Task Rabbit, Uber, and GrubHub style things in this context.

Ah understood. Thanks

Gen X here. LMFAO.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I am GenX. The boomers killed our union. They voted to keep benifits for the "old hires" if they agreed to screw the "new hires".

3 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

May be obvious, but I forgot to say. The old hires outumbered the new hires by about 80/20.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That happened at my grandmas job. Her union and benefits survived three or four total company buyouts and then cutoff millennials.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Fucking UAW. Pay now caps at where it used to start and the retirement benefits are eviscerated. But the olds got to keep theirs so fuck em.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You know unions died under gen-x faster than ever before, right? They're now the 40-60 year olds fighting them entirely.

3 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 3

Unions weren’t an option. US jobs already went overseas. Active union memberships had been falling since the 60’s. Death kneel in the 80’s.

US Gen X slid into the middle management spot as they could use computers before the boomers and millennials were too young to be respected.

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

In Australia until recently you had to be older than 45 to have ever experienced a recession so millennials learnt to swap not fix.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 10

In the US the oldest millennial would have experienced 5 recessions not counting Covid.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So they have quietly benefited from the tail end of all the unions and things here.
