#10 this is something I really don't get - but I'm no native speaker, and my family's standard is a carrot cake for birthdays.

#4 My dad was also this type of jive-ass motherfucker.

#12 It's madness that we're not calling out these repressed boys who are so desperate for acceptance from their peers that they're willing to sacrifice any sense of joy or beauty in life.

#5 looks exactly like my dog did at that age. What breed is this?

#13 Once down in New Orleans, we ran into a large Italian or Italian-adjacent fellow from Chicago. Inevitably, someone mentioned the mafia because, Al Capone; to which he replied, deadpan and quite definitively 'There's no such thing as the mafia." To which we ... decided to believe him.

The Canadian town I grew up in had an extremely large Italian population that had immigrated after the war. In the 50's/60's the town became sort of a Mafia retirement community. VERY low crime rate, loads of well dressed old guys around town with several instances of the letter "c" in their last names. My Dad recalls that every Sunday one of the shorter streets in the otherwise closed downtown would fill up with large black cars and tons of old guys would file in to a small cafe for the day.

If your smoke detector goes off from the oven preheat, you need to clean your oven.
And not use the self-clean, aka self-destruct button.

#14 the lead singer of Dillinger kicked me in the face once. and the drummer bounced a drumstick off the stage that hit me right between the eyes. It is much safer to be in the pit at a DEP show haha.

#1 Go and watch that episode of the Muppet Show. It's real, it's hilarious, it's great. And remember that Piggy is played by Frank Oz who also puppeteered Yoda in The Original Starwars movies.

At the time this picture was taken: "who would go on to puppeteer Yoda"

#7 Old news, that POS is dead and gone.

#13 I went to a Chinese restaurant like that once. They seemed baffled I wanted food, and it took forever, but it was amazing. Place was basically empty, just me, the three “wait staff” and a revolving cast of “delivery drivers” who came in, stared at me, got a paper bag that the staff brought out of the back, and then left.
After I got in my car and got halfway home, I realized it was probably a front.

Be hilarious if the password was vagina and he yelled it out in response every time like some sort of wifi shibboleth.

#22 The tricky part with trying to do this deliberately is that I'd immediately think, "Oh, this is our little arrangement to get me to clean, they're not actually coming over, it's a false alarm and I can safely ignore it". Similar issues with "reward yourself after accomplishing something!" "OR I could just reward myself NOW."

Mark Hamill doesn't have the scar, so this photo must be from before they decided to make Leia his sister.

He likes his apples & potatoes peeled. I like them with skin on. Marriage is hard ;(

1 month ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Is that Vin Diesel's stunt double?

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#1 anyone still here remember when there was a popular mark Hamill lookalike on imgur, and he got pretty popular going to kids cancer events dressed as Luke Skywalker and he was raising money for them or something like that. And he quickly got famous and a large following and we all thought he was a great guy...

But, then it turned out he was a pedo and got multiple serious charges against him related to the pedo stuff. I wonder if he's in the Epstein files.

FlukeSkywalker. I was around for that, even talked to him a few times in comments real quick. Never heard what happened after.

#13 - It's gone and a real pizza place now. But for nigh on 25 years+ all the locals knew not to go to village pizza. My wife and I did once, out of morbid curiosity. Place had a big dining room too. Lots of tables. Sign on the way in made it clear it was a money laundering front. But there were 2 old guys there, covered in prison tattoos. They did not work quickly. And they were grumpy. And it took almost an hour to get 2 grinders, oven had to warm up. https://imgur.com/RhaL5ns.png

Indian restaurant near where I live. 20-25% cheaper than the other Indian restaurants nearby, with delicious food, but NEVER anyone in there. It shut down without warning a few years ago, and the owners fucking disappeared.

Now it's another Indian restaurant there. Again, always empty, the website doesn't work and nobody answers the phone. Open sign is on, but the door is locked.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why wouldn't they just order the pizza from somewhere else and overcharge for it?

1 month ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Bound by honour I guess

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Idk. The owner's name was Bing, iirc. Old school guys. I imagine set up as a post-prison gig, gives those guys jobs for probation officers etc, too.

1 month ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Or even just make it an actual pizza place. Worst case, you lose slightly less money than you would by just renting the building, faking your way through annual inspections, and cooking the books but you'd still be less suspicious than having a couple of grumpy gang members occasionally coming for people who didn't get the memo

1 month ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

That story writes itself... crooks stand up a pizza joint as a front and some thugs on parole find themselves really getting into it despite not needing it to make money. End up helping out homeless people and troubled youth and becoming a cornerstone of the community. Too bad "Godfather's Pizza" is already an actual established restaurant; it would have made a good name.

Idk. Why did Petriarca run the New England Italian mob out of the Coin-O-Matic?

I think the deal was these guys more or less had to be there for the hours they were supposed to, but they preferred smoking and playing cards and hanging out back to actually busting their asses in front of an oven and doing a lot of dishes and waiting tables etc.

1 month ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

You want a place you can sit and talk. You don't want people in there when you're sitting & talking. If it hasn't got a VERY quiet back room... it's no good to open it up

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'll add that re: suspicion, EVERYBODY KNOWS. The cops, if they're gonna watch, are already watching. All you're doing is "now we gotta make food" to the list

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If they wanted to actually work, they wouldn't be in the money laundering business.

One thing about organized crime is, these are mostly losers and not particularly smart people that think they're maiking money the easy way, while building more and more risky, complex and labourous schemes to avoid doing an hour of honest labour.

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

Yeah those lazy stupid bums with their... Complex criminal enterprise that makes enough money that they have to invest in a supporting infrastructure just to hide how much they're make.

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yep. That's the stupidity I was pointing at. And more often than not, they don't get to even keep that money for very long.

A fallacy that is usually created because they are people who grow up in poverty and seeing from young age the rules of society being blatantly skewed against them. Marx called them the "Lumpenplroletariat", roughly translatable as "bastards proletariat", as they mostly prey on other working people to get out of poverty.

The idea of "easy money" is what entices most to>

They understand that the system fucks the people. If they wanna fuck the system back, cool, as long as they aren't *also* fucking the people. Some do and fuck up a neighborhood. Others take care of it.
