So, I made a discord server. It's a relaxed environment where you can take/donate memes to the cause, play trivia twice a week, chat about lots of topics or about nothing at all. We also have Jack Box game night and are setting up movie night! Very laid back/relaxed vibe. Come hang with us.

#3 The opposing soldiers are not a monstrous enemy.

The leaders of the soldiers are the monsters.

This applies to all sides.

Stuff like this is why I always tell the nurse no visitors until I'm not loopy. I keep my brain on a tight leash and when the guardrails are off who knows what the hell I'll say. My brother still torments me about shit I'd say in my sleep when we were kids...

I got a visit from my female boss when I was in the hospital after surgery. I didn't remember any of it. When I returned to work she told me "you're a really funny guy when you are f*cked-up". To this day I don't know what I said to her, but she was a very pretty and intelligent woman, so there's that. I could never get her to tell me what the hell I said to her, because "reasons"...

#12 Workplaces having people change their passwords every 3 months for security reasons isn't that effective considering most people will just make the most minimal changes. It's like "I guess the last character of my password goes from '#' to '$' for a while."

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I had to do that once. Could do it from the command line and there was like "can't be the same as the last 10 passwords" so I wrote a batch file to change it 10 times and then reset it back to the one I could remember.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One thing that annoys me is when sites don't tell you the password requirements until after you've tried to set up a password. The rules aren't universal. If you specifically want a symbol in the password or a password to be a specific length, you can easy stick a message there beforehand. I'll follow the message to a tee.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But then they MUST also put the reminder when I'm trying to log in. I have to have a bunch of different base passwords depending on what the requirements are. And if ALL sites had the same or overlapping requirements then I could just have one but between min/max lengths, MUST and MUST NOT have certain characters and shit, it's a freaking nightmare. I suppose one day it'll just be a drop of blood for a DNA sample every time I want to log into any freaking website.

#4 Richard Harris tells a story of him and O'Toole doing a play together and gettin hammered backstage.
Harris went out for his next scene and took a spill into the front row, landing in a woman's lap, who yelled "Good God! Harris is drunk!"
To which Harris replied "if you think I'm drunk, madam, wait till O'Toole makes his entrance!"

Is this real life?? AAAAHHHHHHH

1 month ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

As a European, convalescence in the US hits so different. Your drugs are certainly on another level.

1 month ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

As an European, I am envious. I've had my bottom wisdom teeth taken out and only got measly local anesthesia, a prescription to antibiotics, and an advice not to eat hot/warm stuff until the wound heals a little bit (eat ice cream, they said to me). That was it, no tripping, no wheelchair.

When I got my gallbladder removed I went in to the hospital at 7am and got out at 1pm. Got some painkillers but only took one since they required me to also take some anti constipation medication that tasted like shit. Also got some antibiotics. This was in Sweden in like 2018 I wanna say.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As an American, I have personally seen this degree of medication only with teeth enclosed in gum being excised. I had fully erupted molars removed due to overcrowding, and I only got local anesthetic. I might have gotten some narcotic pain meds for a day or two, it’s been too long to remember.

Some people do have a terrible fear of dentists due to bad experiences here, and I know there are some dentists that offer Valium before and laughing gas during even simple procedures, though.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

same-ish. 3 injections which gave no pain relief. pain meds that don't work so just drank alcohol.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I know! I got 3 injections that did nothing for pain during a a root canal. (They said it must be too infected so sometimes it doesn't work so we're just gonna have to do it. While you guys are getting out of body experiences with Heroin, LSD and truth serum or so it appears. (UK here btw).

1 month ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

#3 I get the sentiment, but don't confuse yourself. Some of the enemies absolutely were degenerate monsters. From the top all the way down.
It's the indiscriminate wars; wars fought for corporations, nationalist expansion/genocide, and the pride/ego and vanity of old men, that are the problem.

1 month ago | Likes 81 Dislikes 5

I recently heard an account from someone who was a child sex slave during the Bosnian war, who was one among many, the youngest of which that they personally knew of was 4 years old and who was literally raped to death. They were sex slaves for their own army's soldiers, who took advantage of the chaos in the conflict. The survivors were threatened by their own government into claiming they were sex slaves for the enemy, the Yugoslavs. Foot soldiers can absolutely be denegerate monsters.

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And some of your side were degenerate monsters, too.

1 month ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

Absolutely, hence the nationalist expansion/genocide part. I make no illusions about the US or any other nation. Human beings can be horrible creatures non more so when backed by governments, ideology, and tribalism.
And yet they can also be amazing & good!
It’s the power of the mob, the state, the aynominty of large groups that allows people to become monsters who wouldn’t normally be which is why capitalism is amoral. It excuses people to become monsters of their worst self’s for profit.

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I know that last bit is somewhat of a tangent but it wraps into a lot of the harm we are seeing in the world now and historically. 500 characters doesn’t allow for a lot of nuance when discussing complex intertwined subjects. Be well.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And people are often both good people AND monsters, just at different times. Like you said, anonymity and mob mentality are powerful influences that can lead otherwise good people into doing bad things. Yes, those people are still responsible for their actions, but they didn't set out looking for an excuse to do bad things. And when they get defensive about it afterwards, it's because a part of them recognizes that they did something wrong...even if they won't admit it.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We have to be careful not to fall into this trap. (Yes, there are some people who are absolutely monsters. This is just a general rule, and there are always exceptions...just maybe not as many as we think).

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fortunately every war ever was won by the good guys.

1 month ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Unless they were later defeated by someone who liked the original losers better, or the losers retreated but had good PR.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Given that history is written by the victor.. I highly doubt the accuracy of that statement.

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

It is accurate as far as the victor's are concerned though.

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That’s the point they were making, friend.

1 month ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Every Nazi was and still is evil.

1 month ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

As of right now, the people I consider are degenerate monsters definitely are. They are not being forced at all.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I disagree. A lot of them were 16/17 year old boys brainwashed by propaganda and thought they were fighting the good fight for Germany and didn't know the horrors of their government. But NOW there's no excuse. Every modern Nazi is evil. We know what happened and they still choose evil

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Maybe, but even considering brainwashed propaganda, watching people being put in ovens and burned alive, should tip you off that you're not on the right side of history. Defection opportunities existed.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You know what should happen if a 16/17 year old conscript sees someone being put into an oven alive? They should take the gun they've been given, turn it on the highest ranking officer, and SHOOT THEM IN THE FUCKING HEAD, then turn to the next one, and SHOOT THEM AS FUCKING WELL. That would be the only "good" Nazi, one that kills other Nazis.
