I abhor violence or mistreatment of women, or of anyone to be honest.
So this isn't about being a white Knight or a simp. It's common decency.
We all have the right to live life without fear.
So a serving London Met Police officer has snatched and killed a woman. This is a gruesome business as they needed dental records to id her remains.
So groups wanted to hold a vigil but the police have used covid legislation to block it. An appeal was made but was denied.
That already looks a bit sketchy and as though the police are trying to supress critism and or protest.
Now this is a vigil for a murdered woman, Sarah Everard; God rest her soul.
This is not a demonstration or a protest.
So women wearing masks and social distancing held it anyway.
So naturally the Police have waded in.
They were critisised for not stopping the BLM /XR protests during lockdown, so by golly they are going to stop this.
WTF! One of your number has murdered a woman and now you are grappling and kneeling on women at a vigil for her.
The optics are absolutely dreadful.
The head of the Met is woman for heavens sake. so what does it take?
If I was PM or Home Sec, I'd have her and her senior teams feet in my in tray explaining just WTF good they think this is doing and how they are going to sort it out.
I'm actually surprised how cross this has made me. I'm a bit ashamed of my country tonight.
Just wanted to vent.

As an American, I know how you feel, stranger. If it's any consolation, if they do this for another few decades most will get numb to it.

I hear what you are saying, but we have a very effective vaccination programme and they were following all the protocols to protect everyone

They were unable to meet the covid safe requirements, hence they had already been told holding the event was not possible.

There is no way the violence on display by the police was necessary. Not to mention they haven't put the same effort into breaking up >

anti-masker protests.

There are no words to describe how angry I feel, even before tonight. He was a policeman, it’s the ultimate betrayal. I live a few miles

away, it’s close to home on many levels. There’s a memorial in my local park that I think I’ll head to at dawn.

I went on my first Reclaim The Streets March over 25 years ago. So many marches for so many reasons. Society is fucked
