I was born in 1965. Started drinking around 16, started buying around 18. I was never once carded until a few years ago, and now Idaho has made it so you always have to show ID for alcohol. I was in line with a WW2 vet who got carded, and he was not a happy camper about that.
When I turned 18 (drinking age in my country) I went to the supermarket to buy my first booze. My neighbor with whom I rode a skateboard with sometimes as a kid happened to be the one selling it to me. He recognized me immediately and said “you’re not 18”. I said “uhh, yes I am”. He looked at my ID, took a moment to do the math and also visibly died a bit inside.
To him I was still the little boy with the skateboard.
God, the look on that woman's face when she realized that yes, 2005 was that long ago... is how I feel when I think about how 1980 wasn't, in fact, only 20 years ago :/
My oldest niece was born in 2002. She's somehow going to be 24 this year? That doesn't seem right that she's in her mid-20s. I started dating my husband 2 years before she was born for god sakes!
Think most places I've walked into have the exact day and year of the latest you could have been born to purchase. Cause having people math that out is silly
It's not silly to have to do the math. However, that little sticker is really fucking useful. Because honestly... here's my first shot at the date. It's the 9th by now? Fuck 10th this is why we do the little guy on the POS. I didn't have my date right
The only time I get carded these days is in liquor stores, grocery stores dont anymore, though i am sure If i shaved my facial hair off that would change over night.
I've NEVER been carded. I have a sister who's three years older than me. Back when I was 20, she heard me talking about going to a certain restaurant and she got really mad because she and her student friends couldn't get in because it was 24 and over only. I think I was 14 or 15 when I was first approached by a drunkard asking me to go to Alko on their behalf (age limit 18 for mild and 20 for strong liquor). Anyway now I'm 47 and finally look my age!
Same. I had a goatee when I was 14. I was buying smokes, going to strip clubs, and buying alcohol. Granted it was not a 100% success rate, but it was way more often than not.
I was carded once when I was 21 (legal drinking age here is 18) because I shaved before going to the store. Noone ever carded me before that since I was 14. Now, almost 20 years later, it is just a funny memory.
I got arrested by school officers for being at the school I attended early to see off my gf before a big trip if anyone wants to know how "not my age" I have looked for awhile. Don't worry I eventually found my school ID and the officer that had been there longer showed up for work and they knew me and let me go.
My friend used to get half fare on the bus ( under 16 ) into town, change and put on makeup in the bus station bathroom then easily get into the nightclubs that were 21+.
Fuck when you gotta check the month and day... sucks also when they tell you to card everybody under 40 and you get 1000 stock jokes about getting carded.
We do it as a policy! Lol. Yeah I got grays comin in my right side but not my left side. Can we balance it out please! We don't card because we don't know, we do it because we don't want to be caught not doing it... and for the record I've definitely carded everybody under 40 like why would you even ask me if I didn't

Probably because having to do that 100+ times a day is mentally taxing. Most places I go to now just scan the back of the card, though.

almost all stores scan the strip on your ID now.

Also wine isn't considered liquor
Niagaran
Who said anything about liquor?
It is *alcohol* and requires the customer to be an adult.
psychologisttheologist
The woman in the video does. I was agreeing that she doesn't seem to be on her game and adding additional support to that suggestion
cousteau
She was scanning the wine year to double-check how time has passed.
