Somehow in all the craziness of this week, I missed this one earlier.
https://www.newsweek.com/republican-calls-scrap-workplace-safety-agency-2025932
House Republican Andy Biggs introduced a bill on Sunday that would abolish the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), a Department of Labor agency tasked with overseeing workplace safety.
The Arizona representative argued that OSHA's role should be taken over by "state governments and private employers."
Why this is important is that private employers have time and time again shown that they are entirely incapable of regulating or caring for the safety of workers, consumers, or simply people in general.
Laws are written in ink.
Regulations are written in blood.
idrinkcheapbeer
rules are over for the foreseeable future.
MrRandom314159
Written in blood and wiped away with a dollar.
badgerZ505
While he sits safely behind his desk, in a building that we risked our lives to build, while being far too little money…get fucked all of you money hungry republican murderers.
bourbonandbaddecisions
OSHA was written in blood. 🩸
downrightmike
Remember when trump let them put rotting fruit in your food? you should it was his last term
MrsHowVeryDareYou
For all the dumb stuff we do at school or the PTA it’s “Every rule has an email behind it” which is a diplomatic way to say “Every baffling rule is because some Karen complained about nonsense.”

My favorite thing about super mario brothers 2 is that you could play as luigi

bobthefunny
Right in front of ALL our OSHA handbooks.
TheSilverSeraph
Apparently, the answer to everything is to get rid of every single regulation

He's there solely to gut / get rid of any groups that were had, were going to, or may someday investigate him and his businesses. Obviously he's there to enrich himself, but he's mainly bought the presidency to get rid of any oversight into what he's doing.
I can guarantee you, if we send people up on his rockets as this progresses, Challenger is going to seem like a small loss by comparison.

Regulations are written in blood is an aviation mantra. Accidents have been regulated away, the most part. Those rare ones that happen are almost black swan events.

Before long we will be casting aluminum and steel parts while wearing flip flops just like the vids from India

What so many on the right fail to realize is that capitalism breeds a toxic tug-of-war society. You, a worker, want to maximize your income so you can pay your bills, save for retirement, send your kids to college, etc. Your employer, a parasite, wants to maximize his income so he can pay for his third yacht and a summer home on the beach somewhere and is going to achieve that goal by keeping your pay low and your working conditions poor. Regulations help equalize the power and keep workers safe

Safety sandals are coming to America!
StrandedonEarth
You can wear whatever safety equipment you want, but you have to buy it yourself, at extortionate prices…

Like bulletproof backpacks!

In Florida, the state made it illegal for local cities and counties to legislate that companies made give workers shade and water breaks. People are literally dying of heat exhaustion. But it's not white people, so it doesn't make the news.
ExPFCWintergreen
Texas did this too with the argument that they would just legislate statewide protections for uniformity. Nearly 2 years later and no such protections have even made it to the floor for debate.
JadeNB1729
As usual, De Santis and Abbott are duking it out over who can be a worse governor.
bobthefunny
That's insane. Absolutely insane.
ThingsThatDontJustifyGenocide
No, what's insane is that the workers don't beat their bosses and skin them alive to make a shade-tent out of their flesh.
badgerZ505
I Was As a commercial roofer in Florida, this is a death sentence. Now on top of that eliminate OSHA…the company that I worked for had 95% govt. contracts. We spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on safety. Sometimes for idiotic stuff, but those regulations are needed. What sucked was the 'bounties'. The govt agency would pay govt employs to use binoculars and report if they saw 'violations'. Now they want to get rid of all of it?
CaldariBob
Every last one of the workplace safety regs has a body count behind it.
bobthefunny
Every single one. No matter how silly it sounds. If it had to be written down, someone died from it.
Shpielers
Cause we don't bother writing it down in the first place until someone dies :( whole system's fucked
Draco245
It's so damn sad that I take solace in the fact that it's going through Congress at least... "Hey, at least they're trying to do it with some respect to how the government is supposed to work!"
Hawkgirl203
The bar can’t go any lower.
CaptainSkyhawk
The only "policy" that republicans have is that everything should be a race to the bottom. States should have the right to compete to be worst state! Every single city should be allowed, no, Required to fight to be as terrible as possible, for the shareholders.
spitfires2000
Now they are erased with dollar signs & swastikas.
WuProgress
iquestionthepinappleeveryday
Honestly, I could get behind this, Probably because I have the bias of Cal/OSHA already existing and protecting workers better than the federal OSHA and the states that would really fuck this over probably deserve to it. But I won’t, because I know it would disproportionately harm people and enrich greedy sob’s
RooGryphon
this is wonderful news. dont worry the problem will sort itself out when all the stupid idiots kill themselves on the machinery . then we can regain control of the country. we just need this to cull the stupid out of it
yourbassist
Upton Sinclair about to be revived for a sequel?
JadeNB1729
And Sinclair Lewis ("It can't happen here").
klawheart
Oh right, because workplace protections WERE originally gifted benevolently to the working class by owners and management /s
PTK74
And now kids can work in dangerous jobs, right ?
bobthefunny
They're already trying...
bobthefunny
They really, really, want that...
PunnyTiger
so what happens when so many of the poor are dead that they have no one to run the machines?
iquestionthepinappleeveryday
Ummm, you did notice they are trying to get rid of a shit ton of federal employees putting them into the unemployed workforce right? Just adding a little buffer
PunnyTiger
firing hundreds and killing thousands does not give you net zero
PunnyTiger
also federal office employees are qualifies to sit in cubicles, not to run the machines.
laserfrog
There are unions and strikes as the alternative to burning down owner-homes and businesses. Low unemployment & removed housing/food help...
bobthefunny
They want to get rid of Unions too.
laserfrog
directly affects the ability of workers to say 'fuck this' and reasonably expect to find employment at a place with better safety. MedInsure

is another employment lock in, coupled with increase in disease and illness from lower work safety and fda regulations. New jobs often have

a 6 month wait for insurance too so just curl up and die I guess if you have diabetes or anything chronic.

I've heard that statement, 'regulations are written in blood' many times before.
There's a reason you don't stand near the fish hopper with raingear.
StrandedonEarth
There's a reason checklists exist
IAmTheBadW01f
WWII era airplane crashes iirc
64645
1935, the prototype B-17 heavy bomber crashed when the pilots forgot to remove the gust lock. Two people on board died after as a result of their injuries. After that investigation concluded, the big result was that the checklist was developed.
The701
I'm sorry, checklists are woke now. President Elon says they have to go away.
rocketkannon
but I thought (f)elon loved checkmarks!
