I was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation in I think June or July. Life has been a blur since then. I was going to have brain surgery to remove my c2, c2, 2cm of my skull, and have my dira cut open (the sack that goes around the brain and holds spinal fluid) and patched back together but looser but then had to have my gallbladder out in an emergency first. Then I had brain surgery August 5th. Ive made posts before of the science side of it and of my own incision but this is BY FAR the best video I've ever seen to explain the condition!

A lot more people have chiari than realized. It was only discovered in the late 1800s in a cadaver when the bone opening where the spinal cord can go to the brain was too big and the brain was being squished down the spinal column. Symptoms can be a ton of different things but the main one is intense headaches. Mine got so bad that I had to threaten my dr to send me in for an mri or cat scan because he kept telling me I was having stress headaches. Also, trouble swallowing and sometimes numbness in arms and fingers. I have a few other symptoms (there's tons) but those are the main ones.

Im 3 months post op as of today and I 89% feel better. The headaches have stopped, but I still get a pressure when I do anything such as bend over, cough, sneeze, exist in any capacity really lol. I still have issues swallowing. I still have issues with numbness. They had to sever all muscles in the back of my neck to do the surgery and honestly that's what hurts the most still. I just have to stretch my muscles out a bit more to be "normal".

2/2 In the end is was https://institutchiaribcn.com/en/ that saved me from all the different daily pains. Hope you feel even better soon.

Did you ever feel pressure behind one of your eyes that would turn into a migraine? I call them eyegrains.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lol I did not have that.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ok thanks for putting me at ease. I have chronic pain and migraines and shit but at least my brain is ok? Glad you're ok too.

oh, Amygdala! have mercy on the poor bastard

I love super specific science stuff like this. Thank you!

does not look like a typical TikTok video ...

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Tik tok is what you make it. You hide all the dancing videos and then you only get shown this stuff after a while!

Or woman

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Chiari Malformation gives you the worst headaches ever in your 20s-30s and meds sedate you to a point you dont enjoy... Surgery helps 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

which is removing a complete cervical vertebrae and placing a VP shunt (to reduce the intracraneal pressure). But it is SOOO expensive. 2/3

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

*expensive in countries without universal socailized healthcare.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

This really sucks... because the 'patient' did nothing wrong to his/her body... but nature can be a bitch...3/3

Can anyone else smell that gif? Or is it just me? ... Too much time in cadaver lab I guess

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Don't fuck the cadavers. That is all.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was just coming to look for this comment. I can smell the formaldehyde

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No but I still have intense nightmares where I wake up screaming because it's almost as if I can feel the cold blade running down my neck

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Or, that's not the blade, it's the spirit of someone that loved you trying to comfort you. Frightening you was never the intention.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I took zoology. I can smell this

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bro, I think your brain isn't supposed to be out in the open like that.

5 years ago | Likes 153 Dislikes 0

I should sue

5 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 1

I would, I mean, I don't think you consented for that guy to fuck with your mendula oblengata, thats what makes alligators angry.

5 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

didn't it tickle when he was poking you like that?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's what my uncle used to say to me

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Big oof

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel so lucky to have an ok brain. 0_0

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I thought I had an ok one until I turned 30. Theres always still time to discover a horrible disease.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't think your brain is supposed bro look like wood. Get well soon??stay strong

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I see it bro

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good to know

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Love you bro

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Reading those symptoms is making me think i need to go see a doctor

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

With that being said I'm learning within my community that some doctors think it's a joke still

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You probably should. I knew my headaches were something worse. Doesn't hurt to ask about it

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Those symptoms you listed are very relatable. But i genuinely do have a ton of stress in my life, so im not sure

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I do too. That's why I was told it was stress headaches. Stress doesn't cause the pain I was in.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fair enough. It must have been unbearable
