All I can imagine now is a T-Rex desperately trying to perch on every tree branch, growing increasingly frustrated as each one snaps beneath its weight.

It's almost like some form of selection that allowed dinosaurs (and by extension birds) to not only be good at perching in high places but also really good at diving down to grab on to smaller animals, be able to piece flesh with sharp claws, and then be able to easily keep hold of such prey. One might even call it natural.

Did them dinos perch on branches?

Yes. That caused the forest dying syndrome. They were too heavy for the branches.

Technically therapods are not only their ancestors, birds still are therapod dinosaurs.

If you can't evolve out of a clade (e.g. birds are therapod dinosaurs, whales are even-toed ungulates) then all land tetrapods are fish.

That poor bird is thinking "How DARE you manhandle me! I'm a fearsome dinosaur! I'm a descendant of a long line of terrible lizards! I will END YOU!"

I'm pretty sure that's a blue tit, and according to my wife, who does bird banding, they are one of the most aggressive when being handled. they hack at your fingers with their beak.

Thank you for the concern but they were tinysourshandled. And the 'end you' part was already claimed by the parrots and parakeets, you need to get in line for that.

If they did fall out of trees asleep, they'd be Tinysaurus Wrecks.
