Having the good Tweets here discourages people from having a Twitter account. You're encouraging people to get a Twitter account so they can see content. If that content is copied here, we don't need to go to Twitter to get it.

Before 2020 my username was "DownvoteAllDumps" because I hated how dumps prevented us from having any meaningful conversations about a subject because they're shovelware.
A few people recognized me, but I never really made a difference. Good luck, and to hell with Twitter and nobody should be on there anymore (Mastodon exists), but try not to get invested.

Some online communities are thoroughly embedded in it and don't want to vacate just because they're trying to make it a bastion of transphobia and racism. you really want to give them a massive uncontested platform the size of twitter? I'd argue that screenshots of tweets actually discourage using twitter, because you get the funny content without having to visit the site.

So you’re going to downvote good content on the platform you like because that content originated on a platform you don’t like? Seems like kind of a misguided crusade. I get plenty of good laughs from crap people snag from twitter and post here. I’m glad other people cherry pick the good stuff from twitter so I don’t have to use that platform.

Yep, it's trying to bail out the tide. I think the root is that people want to share that neat/dumb thing they saw and will jump through any hoops to do it, even if it means screenshotting text and uploading that because they wanna share text and this is an image site.

We need something more convenient than twitter - crowdfund our own Elon Musk, he can be a true self made (self made by standing up for the people and the planet, like Musk CLAIMED he was doing, have him be someone actually good under contract but I'm thinking someone like tiny octopus or elbow deep in a horse
