Fun fact: The A-10 needs to fire this gun downwards because the recoil is so big that it'll stall the plane. (I learned that from a Seamen)

Well he was an airplane mechanic, so I imagine he just had a general knowledge about airplanes. I mean you can find that info on Google.

Well maybe an A-10 had to land on an Aircraft Carrier for repairs or he had a Navy Pilot buddy who knew. Maybe he googled it. I don't know.
